    Started out as a small diner back in 1956, Uludag Kebap has become a legendary brand for döner/iskender lovers (fellow carnivores!!). It has grown into a small chain of restaurants since then with 3 branches in Ankara and 1 in Istanbul. This one we usually go to is the headquarters in Ulus, the district where the first restaurant was established.

    Well, the tip title says it but I'll say again: Iskender kebap, of course!! The döner is so thinly and elegantly sliced, and placed on top of fresh pide (pitta bread) with yoghurt, and tomato sauce. They also bring in melted butter in a pan - if you don't suffer from high cholesterol, go on & enjoy it ;-)

    In the Citadel area some restaurants have opened in old houses. I went to the same one two evenings as the food was very delicious and the view over Ankara was great. I can't remember the name, but it was close to the Museum of Anatolian Civilisation. The tavuk (chicken) sac kebabi comes on a hot plate, still cooking. And the bread was warm and delicious. Chicken, bread, coke and tip was 10 000 000 TL. Chicken, bread, ayran, tea and tip was 10 000 000 TL.

    Simit is a sesame-covered bread ring. It is sold everywhere in Turkey, and everywhere in Ankara as well. It is a good snack to buy when you are on the way, and it is cheap. In Ankara the price for one simit is 250 000 TL (June2004). In Ankara I saw more simit sellers then anywhere else.

    Turkish is one of the world's most varied cuisines. The number and variety MEZES is staggering. The KABAB features sliced or skewered lamb meat prepared a number of ways and ranks among Turkey's most popular dishes. Street snack, such as KOFTE and PIDE are delicious and cheap. Turkish desserts are toooo sweet and have to be tested to be believed.

  • Mantar means Mushroom. But there is not much mushroom there. it is agood restaurant for Turkish foods. Healthy and good.

    I liked whatever I ate until now.

  • Diyarbakir is a city on the South-east part of Turkey. This restaurant's meals from that city. it can be spicy and diiferent for you but I advice to try.

    The Turkey's food here is very tasty...but, one thing that I hate to eat this food, I have to give extra careful...'cos some of the foods cook with RAKIs, a kind of liquor..ya, just like French and others western foods... I NEVER take any Liquor or Beer ( Root Beer okay).

  • Especially if you are drunk, take a 'Iskembe Soup'. The best is in 'Rumeli Iskembe' on Sakarya St. Or try 'Kokorec' from the street. Try not to learn what are included in Iskembe or Kokorec. Just enjoy the delicious taste.

  • Just go to the Sakarya street (There are a lot of streets there but all this area is known as Sakarya street) You will find all sources of food. Be aware that you can find the most delicious 'Döner' kebab in Ankara. I advice you the restaurants 'Cihan Kebab' and 'Karacaoglu'. If you want to eat doner in fast food style, try 'Hosta Piknik'. For delicious sweets go to the 'Mdya Tatli' or 'Karacaoglu' on Sakarya Street. For fish, especially Black Sea speciality fish 'hamsi', try 'Hamsikoy' on Sakarya St.

  • My favorite restaurang is just a normal kebap-restaurang. ohh I miss the food. I dont actually remember.

    Ayran or Ayram I dont remember the name derectly. (It is a salty drink). -Makes you feel even more thirsty. But so good. Second best item I will choose is doner-kebap. Tasty
