If you are really serious about buying a carpet in Turkey then visit as many carpet shops as you can before making your mind up, in Alanya there are loads of carpet shops so finding one you like should be easy, the hard bit is deciding how much to pay. There is a very good tip to learn when buying a good quality carpet, first make sure it is 100% wool and then turn the carpet over and check the closeness of the weave, in general the tighter the weave and the smaller the knots, the higher the quality. Also carpets with natural dyes tend to fetch a higher price than the chemical dyes so try not to be ripped off into buying a natural dye carpet when you might be buying a chemical dye carpet. One more big, big, tip to learn as i found to my cost, do not be tempted into buying a carpet at or on a tour, as this is on the photo, the price will be at least 35% higher to cover the tours overheads. I found in Alanya that some shops will actually check your credit and let you pay in instalments and then arrange to have your carpet shiped back home for you. And remember, haggle for everything, IT COULD SAVE YOU LOADS OF CASH.

A huge market located in the centre of town, very hot, but an amazing array of colours sounds and smells as you mingle with the locals and tourists.
What to buy: Apple Tea - Amazing!
Leather items
Lace items
Spices
"Genuine" Designer fakes !!!

What to pay: Haggle like crazy! Half what you have been offered the item for - even less sometimes!

Oh my god! Turkey is a popular place in Scandinavia, probably because it is cheap in Turkey. You can buy stuff that you actually buy at home, but difference is the price. Of course there are just copies, but who will know that when you wear the clothes at home?
You have got to bargain! I recommend at least 30 - 50 %. If you don't like the price, just go a way slowly and they will scream "I make ... whatever the price you wanted".
What to buy: Clothes, jewels, watches & lether.
What to pay: You should not pay more than €10 for 5 t-shirts, not more than €10 for 10 boxershorts (I got 16 for 10 euros).

This is not just about one shop but about the market. I just love to go to the Turkish markets. I think it is fun, they have a lof on sale, it's nice to walk around and look at all the stuff. And ofcourse buy a lot. It is not expensive in Turkey so I usually spend too much money there.
And part of the game is that you have to bargain there. I am not all good at that but my husband is, so that's his job.
What to buy: I bought some gold there, a bag, shirts, apple tea, Turkish delight (I just love that), but there is lots and lots more.
