    BEACHES

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 7, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you ever visit Alanya, then try to get accommadation on the right of the fortress. Although Alanya has miles of sandy beach, most of the left side is covered in rocks, so swimming is difficult to say the least, but on the other side of the fortress the swimming is perfect, although te sea can get a bit choppy in the afternoon

    PRICE PROMISE

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 7, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you dicide to visit the spectacular fortress there are taxis that wait at the bottom to take you up, unfortunately this is one of the only ways to get up there and it is this you have to be weary of. Dont jump in the first taxi that you see, ask how much and fix a price with the taxi driver before you leave, bare in mind the journey to the top is about 15 mins.

The correct amount is about US$6Dollers.

  • Dodgy Taxi Drivers

by DUBLINMAN Written Aug 3, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Make sure you know exactly how much you give the Taxi driver when you pay. I caught them a few times swapping a fifty lira note for a one lira note (They look very alike). They take your money and hide it in the back and try to tell you that you gave them a one. Not happy when i caught them .

  • Beware of Skimming Machines

by silversaxo Written Jan 7, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Please be careful when using machines to draw money out with your credit or debit card. On the main stretch a credit card machine had been tampered with and a skimming machine attached to it which took my husbands credit card details and PIN number and over £1000 had been removed from his bank account. Luckily he got all but the charges back from his bank as he could prove we were actually not in the country when some of the money had been withdrawn. Also my details were registered on the machine but they did not have my PIN number. There was a queue of people waiting to use this machine so I imagine several people lost their money on that particular day. Any machine that looks old and battered or if you are at all suspicious it may have been tampered with do not use it.
I am glad we did not find out the money had been taken out until after we had arrived home otherwise it would have spoilt an otherwise lovely holiday had we known about it whilst there.

    Quite a rocky climb

In Alanya, if you decide to walk up to the fort on the cliff be warned that young girls may approach you and offer a short cut. refuse and continue, because we ended up half way up the hill in the middle of a very rocky climb with them asking for large sums of money. I gave them what loose change I had and told them to "F*** off"!
Maybe something nasty could have happened so just be aware!

    Cleoparta Beach

The famous Cleopatra Beach in Alanya has no more blue flag.
Although the beach has rare fine sands, in the sea just at shore there are hidden rocks which couses vocation trouble for beachers. A few years ago sea shore had also fine sands in the sea. But after earthquake of 2000 in Marmara region high waves brought fine sands of the sea to the shore. so that the rocks under sand became apperant. Old people, rentners must take care while entering to the sea. There is no problem when the sea calm is. but if it is waves hard to get in the sea.

August, 1, 2010 This summer there is no rocks in the beach because the waves covered them with sand. You can walk in the sea some 100 meters.

    WATCH YOUR STEP

In Turkey and Alanya is no exeption they seem to go all out to make it as hard as they can for pedestrians to walk on the pavement, as beautiful as they are why oh why do they have to plant trees right in the middle of the paths, this is not only stupid but very painfull if you walk into one, especially if its got spines sticking out LOL

  • alanya female warning

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Alanya is not a safe place for lone or groups of females. My friend and I had real problems. Most of the hotels, bars and clubs offer a free pick up service. do not take this. My friend and I did and almost got in serious trouble. Two of the hotel staff asked where we were going and stupidly we told them. They joined us for a few drinks and everything was fine. When we decided to go back to the hotel one of the lads said he was on pick up service and would drive us (he'd only had 1 beer). once in the car they started saying they would take us to the castle. when we refused they started getting nasty and drove us around back streets whilst sexually assulting assulting us until my friend pretended she was sick and we managed to jump out of the car. This was despite our pleas to take us back to the hotel and there had been no indication that they where anything but gentlemaen before hand. Please be aware that most of these men do not have the same respect for women as they do in europe. It really is not a safe place for femlaes to go. if you must go then never walk any where at night, always stick together, never get in a taxi with more than 1 man in it, never get drunk, be aware of your dress length, never use any pick up service and don't think that anybody is being friendly or giving you something for nothing. there not, to be honest most turkish men would treat a dog with more respect than a western tourist,

    Atatrk street

They don't drive as polite as we do in western Europe so watch out whenever crossing a road, especially the major (Atatürk) street. However, the street was kind of easy to cross because of the palms in the middle.

  • RUSSIAN INVADERS!!!!!!

by Elian Written Jul 29, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The danger is to ruin your vacation being with all not civilized Russian people who thinks that for a 5 * hotel they are entitled to take everything including sending they children who stolen ALL tea bags and sugar in one day! They are incredible starting from the morning when they they 'reserve' the best places around the swimming pool from 5.00 AM!!!!
During the lunches they are able to take all the food necessary for 3 times more that they need like it is the only food for the rest of the year!
Do not mentioning the fact that they are swimming in the pool WITHOUT having a minimum shower to clean them from the beach sand!

Anyway I can give more samples about their behavior but the idea is to avoid hotels with a Russian majority!
