Mahmutlar market is i suppose a giant tourist trap but don't let that put you off visiting the place because its still a charming area and theres some real bargains to be had at the market but you must be prepared to haggle for those good bargains, whatever the price they offer you for a perticular item halve it and then take it from there

DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS

Out side of the mosque at the bottom of the stairs is a small dommed building, in the centre is a round shaped trough with taps and seats, i believe this is for the muslem religion who have to bathe there hands and feet before entering the mosque

    INSIDE THE MOSQUE

To get to go inside this mosque was a rare treat, its not a place that tourists are normally allowed to enter, i had to take my shoes off and the women had to wear a head dress and also one round there waist, when we got in it was amazing, the work that must have gone into building this place is remarkable, the carpet inside was all hand made and must have taken years to make

    THE MOSQUE NEAR MAHMUTLAR

This superbly built mosque is one of the largest around, im not too sure but it looked very new to me. The craftmanship that went into building a dommed mosque like this one is brilliant

    A Visit to Side

by colbro Updated Feb 17, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A must when you visit Mahmutlar is a visit to Side. Aprox a half hour drive from Mahmutlar is the resort of Side,Although the town is only small it has plenty to offer and is quite picturesque. Here you can explore the greek and Roman ruins including the Roman Theatre which is still in use today.
The resort has a lovely beach and the sea here is great for young children as it is very shallow and great for non swimmers.
There are a good selection of shops and places to eat, all in all a great day out.

A must when you visit Mahmutlar is a visit to Dim Cay River where you can sit on a raft in the rapids and have a nice meal . The rafts are well shaded against the sun and while you are enjoying your meal you can have your car washed for only a few lira.
While in the area you can also visit Dim Cay caves .
