Manavgat Things to Do

  • Take a boat trip

As part of a Thomsons tour, I went on a boat trip along the Manavgat River. At the river in the town on Manavgat, you can choose from a few different companies who run boat rides along the river. The trip was 2 hours long. The destination was a beach. It took 45 minutes to get there, we had half an hour at the beach, then had another 45 minute boat...

  • Mosques

Around all of Turkey, as it is a Muslim country, there are 1000s of Mosques.I loved seeing every Mosque that I saw. They are all different and have beautiful domes and spires. One of the photos is of the biggest Mosque on the Mediterranean side of Turkey which holds 3000 people praying!

  • TO MUCH LOCAL BREW

As we was overtaking a big boat down the river to the sea this bloke was making a pratt of himself on the bow end, way to much to drink me thinks, its a pitty he never fell in the river that might have quiet him down a bit LOL

  • MANAVGAT WATER FALLS

I guess you could put this place under tourist trap if you wanted to, don't get me wrong its a beautiful place to be on a hot Turkish day but the waterfalls are not very large really and apart from market stalls and a few restaurants there is little else here to see. These falls are worth seeing if you are in the area but not really worth a days...

  • Manavgat Falls

I read about this on the guide but it wasn't truly as spectacular as I thought it would be. We passed by and saw it for about 10 minutes (had ice cream sticks too) on the way to Aspendos from Termessos.

  • A DAY ON THE RIVER DIM

The river Dim is quite wide so overtaking is not a prob when you get 2 big boats side by side

  • A DAY ON THE RIVER DIM

Most tourist trips down the river include lunch on the boat and this one was quite good, we had rice, salad, kebap, and bread, in most cases you can have second helpings as well

  • A DAY ON THE RIVER DIM

This is where most boats leave and head to the sea taking tourists on a great day out, not though i may add on that little pink rowing boat lol

  • DAY ON THE RIVER DIM

All along the banks of the river dim are nets like these, they are for trout which are bred for all the fish restaurants in the area, so if you decide to eat at a restaurant near here then you are sure to get the freshest fish avalable

  • A DAY ON THE RIVER DIM

This is the sort of boat used for the river trip, mostely they are traditional boats made in Turkey and they really do look superbly built in varnished timber

A boat tour alongside the river Manavgat is absolutely worth to take. You spent few hours on board, admire the countryside passing by, have an excellent lunch, and a lot of entertainment, including the belly dance.

Being to Turkey, it is "a must" to attend a performance of Belly Dance. In our way back, this supple girl with beautiful figure presented us some traditional belly dances.Men's public rewarded her with some money - Tip.

Next to the only higher tree, far around, a new building is built. I took this photo, because the method of construction is total different than I know. First a skeleton is erected, and the roof topped, and after that, other construction works are made.

We stayed there for a couple of hours, enough to swim or just to sunbath. A speciality of this place is, that you can swim in much colder the river, or in the warmer sea.

And here we are. This is a place, where we landed. This is also the place, where the river meets the sea. A narrow peninsula, is in whole a sandy beach. No shadow at all. Just warm sand, a stall where you can hire a deck chair and beach umrella, and buy a softdrinks, icecream and fruit.

  • Manavgat

As the river Manavgat is abounding with fish, flocks of water birds are presented there. It's understandable, lots of food - fishes, and as the traffic on the river is quite busy, turists throw some food from the deck too.

Well, actualy it's not about real restaurant. Tea is very popular in Turkey, you can get it everywhere, they will give it in small glass. But the special feeling you can get not in the big restaurant but in the small tea bars. They sell only tea there and you can meet many Turks there who came just for one or two glasses of tea.
In Manavgat you can find one of them under the bridge.

Tea... in Turkey you can get it everywhere, in every shop, on the bazaar... They have teas of all sort, but mostly fruit teas (apple tea is the most popular). You can taste it, even when you pass by any shop the seller can offer you a glass of tea. Don't worry, you don't have to pay for it, it's a gift and a kind of invitation to his shop.

  • Bazaar

Don't miss the bazaar in Manavgat which takes place twice in a week. Especialy its traditional part, where Turkish farmers sell fruits and vegetables.Turks are the masters in the forgery so on the "clothe" department you can buy "original" clothes from Adidas, Nike etc.The bazaar is really big so be careful not to be lost there. And don't forget to...

The villagers are tourist adjusted too. This lady in the photo, demonstrates the ancient way of spinning wool for knitting. We were allowed to take a photo of her, and she expected "a Tip" - a must in Turkey.

We visited one of the villages, to get to know the way of life in the countryside. In compare with the towns, it's two worlds. As we were told, people are moving to the towns, eager for better life. Old people stay in the villages. Local woman is greeting the tourists.

If you take the river boat trip that includes lunch, i can guarrentee it won't include drinks, ask for the prices before you order a drink, it can work out expensive, better still smuggle your own drinks on board
