    Barhal monastery church/mosque.

by Tdiver Written Sep 9, 2006

Unsure as to why it has not been made into a museum or something as there is now a proper mosque in the village,so you probably won't be able to get inside.
Built in the 10th century and later restored in the 13th this Georgian monastery church has a few interesting bits on the outside but apart from its impressiveness not much else to make it stand out.

    Karagol lake.

by Tdiver Written Sep 9, 2006

It's a steep hike but the reward at the end is worth it.
Take the road up to nearly Nazara where they stack harvested hay, cross the small bridge, then head up,through 3 small villages.
It took myself just under 3 hours with a small pack to reach it and just over 1 and a half hours back down again.
Lake is icy cold and set atop a steep wall of rock.Luckily as you make your way around to the right and below the lake, there is an indistinct path marked by small cairns of rock to the left, which take you up to the left of the lake then across the scree slope.I took the more direct near vertical ascent under the lake, loose rocks make it hazardous.
To find crocuses at the end of July say something about the climate here,so be prepared.

Start of climb by road. 2nd village on way up to Karagol lake. Crocus in July at Karagol lake. Flowers around Karagol lake. Looking up towards Karagol lake.
