Olive oil

Recent years, olive oil became popular. Now there are many places you can buy it. But if you want something like gift, you have to visit this place.
I bought these little ceramic bottles of oils in my latest visit.

What to buy: They have various bottles, also olive oil for daily use, soap and olives.

What to pay: These mall bottles cost 5 ytl ($3.5 or 2.7 euro)

Ayvalik Pottery is located in the old town of Ayvalik. The female potter is selling handmade art works made of red and white clay. All of them are handmade. As she works and sells from her studio, it is possible to watch her working on the pottery wheel.

Every district in Turkey has a open air market once a week. Merchants bring their goods to a specific location in the morning and pick up and go in the evening. There are three different markets in Ayvalik region: One in Ayvalik in Thursdays, one in Alibey (Cunda) Island in Saturdays, one in Armutcuk in Sundays.
The vendors bring and sell fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, cheese, olives, spices, clothes, etc.
The Ayvalik market is very popular. People come to Ayvalik for shopping even from Mytilini island, Greece.
These pictures are taken in Cunda market. It is a colorful experience to shop and taste goods in these markets. Also you can chat with local merchants.

What to buy: Fruit, vegetable, olive, olive oil...

What to pay: These markets are very cheap usually.

Many small oil suppliers.

What to buy: Each shop sells a slightly different olive oil, but the best thing is you are encouraged to try before you buy, so you can pick the one you like the best.

Also look for speciality wine vinegars, and olive oil soap.

What to pay: Extra virgin olive oil is around 4 -5 euro a litre.
