Ayvalik is on the Northern Aegean coast of Turkey, with Istanbul to the north and Izmir to the south.
Travel agencies suggest three main ways to get here:
From Izmir: by bus or taxi taxi about two and a half to three hours’ drive.
From Istanbul: journey by coach takes about five hours in summer if you cross over Sea of Marmara, otherwise about nine hours.
From Mytilene, Greece: Catch ferryboat from Mytilene to Ayvalik (about one hour forty minutes’ sailing time).
Ayvalik is situated about 50 km from Bergama and we reached it by bus in an hour after leaving this ancient city.

Izmir is close to Ayvalik. There are many alternatives to get Ayvalik from there. Sebat is one of the bus companies around. The problem is that there are too many places on the road to stop like Dikili, Foca, Aliaga, Altinova, Bergama (Pergamon) etc. So the bus ride takes more hours than normal. If you drive, it takes only 2,5 hours,. It could take 4 or 5 hours by bus.
The price of Sebat Turizm is 13 YTL ($10) between Izmir and Ayvalik.

It takes 8-9 hours to reach Ayvalik from Istanbul. There are many alternatives during summer but the most popular one and my personal choice is Kamil Koc. They have 8-10 busses from Istanbul to Ayvalik per day. Ticket price is 40 ytl ($30 or 24 euro) nowadays.

No kidding! You can actually hitch a ride on some vehicles... going to and from Cunda Island / Ayvalik central..... but of course at your own will.
We did and it was safe and fun..... riding an old pick-up truck or those small trucks...
