Bozcada is known with its wines for centruies. We know that, in the ancient times they used to make a festival for Dyonissios (patron of wine) in the island. Evliye Çelebi (the world famous travaller of 17th century) had said that the best wine in the world was produced in Bozcada.
Since Greek people left the island, the wine is not produced that much. The grapes are cultivated to be consumed as fruits. However, still there are 4 wine factories (Talay, Ataol, Corvus and Yunatcilar). It is possible to visit the factories, see how the wine is made, taste wine and make shopping. If you ask my opinion, i did not find the wine of the island very special. Still, it is a good gift to bring friends from the island. You can taste wine in restaurants and bars as well and you can buy wine from the buffet in the harbour.
There is a castle in this island, as usual. Also there is a small local museum in it. Bozcaada is a very small place to avoid visiting the castle. And it is very exciting to look downwards (to rocks and waves breaking on them) from the walls of castle, if you don't have vertigo.
There are many beaches around the island. The best known one is Ayasma Beach. If you wish you can spend all day on the beaches and eat your lunch at one of the restaurants around it.
One thing to remember is that the sea water is very cold especially in July and August. They say that on September it is not that cold. The reason was the cold water springs in the sea. So, if you go to sea be prepared to cold water...
Bozcaada is famous with its Castle. The castle is illuminated after the sunset and looks very nice.
It is not known by whom and when the castle was built but we know that phoenicians, genoese, byzantines, ottomans used the castle.
Tourists liked to climb the castle towers and watch the wonderful view from there. It is the best place to take photos. It is also possible to visti the castle museum and see the amphoras...
Please remember that the castle is open until 18:00.
On the second day of our tour we went to the windfarm to watch the sunset while drinking the island wine we brought there with us.
Bozcaada is a v ery windy place and it has a wind farm with 17 wind tribunes. That is how the electricity of the island is provided.
Just in front of the wind tribunes there is an old light house. It is not used anymore, it is "retired" lighthouse.
I think it is a very romantic place however, since all tourist companies bring their groups to the same place to watch the sunset it might be very crowded. Therefore, i recommend you to go somewhere else to watch the sunset if you want to be alone with your lover....
Bozcaada is an island with two different ethnically originated population: turks and greeks.
Within the framework of this festival you can follow many social and artistic activities such as concerts, symposiums,exhibitions...
