    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Tucked away in amongst the olive trees is a once major comercial centre.
Said to have been built for Alexander the Great around 330 B.C., a major port and was even more important than Troy 20 miles away.
St.Paul visited twice but its location proved its downfall as it was prone to attack by raiders.
A lot of the old stones were transported from here to Istanbul, for use in several mosques, the Blue Mosque the most famous.
Today there is a current archaeological dig there, which you will pass on a bend before the main centre, from the direction of Dalyan village, which is a nice place to stop off and have something, down by the small harbour.
See Travelogue for pictures from the current dig.
Transport available from Ezine or Geyikli.
