    How to get to Pamukkale

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Updated Jan 19, 2009

Pamukkale is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley.
You can get to Pamukkale by train from Istanbul (1 time a day, 14 hours in a way). You can also get there by bus from Antalya (14 times a day, 5,5 hours in a way), Konya (2 times a day, 7,5 hours in a way), Izmir (2 times a day, 3 hours in a way).
We came to Pamukkale by excursion bus from Konya.

You can watch my 2 min 00 sec Video clip Konya-Pamukkale road with Zeynep Mansur – Katlanamam - Turkish pop music.

plane to denizli and bus to pamukkale

    by eugini2001 Written Jul 30, 2008

Well, only one bus from Denizli airport was available, that means we paid 20$ for 12miles ride, when 15$ is a price for 3hours ride from Denizli to Selcuk, but if you don’t want to walk along a desert like terrain to your hotel you’ll pay overpriced ride, that sucks. Next time I’ll fly to Izmir and take a bus to Denizli and than to Pamukkale, that will be cheaper.

    The straight road

The closest large town is Denizli. From there, there are signs leading you to the straight country road that takes you to Pamukkale. As you arrive, the village is on the left and the site (hillside + Hierapolis) is on the right.

In the summer, Pamukkale has a few direct buses from other major cities and many of them continuing to Pamukkale from Denizli. At other times of the year you have to change at Denizli. The main bus stop and ticket office is on the towns main street. The trip between Denizli takes about 30 mins and costs about US$1.

    From iStanbul to Pamukkale

There is no direct bus to Pamukkale from iStanbul and the fastest way is to get to Denizil first, then take a dolmuse to Pamukkale.

From Otogar in istanbul, there are lots of bus companies selling tickets to Denizil. There are also lots of ticket-sellers standing ourside the shops asking you where you wanna go. It's definitely irritating especially if you've known which company you wanna use.

Orginally I wanna buy tickets from Metro. Unfortunately, they don't have any services to Denizil. However, Metro's staff recommended us to buy tickets from 'Pamukkale' and so we did.

The ticket costs 30 Million Turkish Lira and it takes 11 hours, with drink (tea/coffee/soft-drink/water) frequently served. Comfortable seats too.

    Getting there

Hierapolis is situated about 20 km away from Denizli. I think the best way to get there is by bus. Every travel agency offers journeys to Pamukkale and Hierapolis but you can also travel with public transport.

You can visit Pamukkale in a 1 day trip from close locations (three hours drive from Bodrum, Marmaris or Kusadasi), but the best way to see it is at sunrise or sunset, when all the tourist buses leave, and for that you''l have to sleep here.
