Lot of mosques and bridges in small place
Favorite thing: Edirne, despite its small size of central part, amazed me by number of mosques and bridges through Tunca and Meric rivers. Bridges by style look more or less the same, but were constructed through long period - 15th till 19th centuries. Some of them available just for cars (attention!), some for a walk as well.
Smaller or bigger mosques are located at central place, Selimiye being as highest and most significant one.
Favorite thing: Edirne is rich in wooden houses, mostly survived from 19th century. Their style is called as Ottoman as well.
Some of them you could find walking along Saraclar street, other you could find separate in different streets.
The one mansion in first photo is called “Hafizaga konagi” near Selimiye mosque.
Geniuos of Architecture
Favorite thing: Mimar Koca Sinan Aga - the greatest architect in Ottoman Empire who served three sultans.
Among his works the most famous are:
Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge
Mihrimah Sultan Mosque
Kılıç Ali Pasha Complex
Sokollu Mehmet Pasha Mosque
Banya Bashi Mosque(Sofia, Bulgaria)
Church of the Assumption
In Edirne he has built several baths: Sokollu, Tahtakale, Mezit bey, Beylerbeyi, Gazi Mihal hamams, and two caravanserai: Ahmet Pasa K . and Rustem Pasa K.( now a hotel).
His tomb is beside Sultan Suleyman and Hurrem Sultan in Istanbul.
