There are many ski centres in Turkey such as Uludað, Kartalkaya, Elmadað, Ilgaz, Erciyes, Palandoken and Sarýkamýþ. Among these, Palandoken has a special place for winter sports. The Palandoken mountains are found in Erzurum in the Eastern Anatolia region.
Palandoken, a resort which is on the top of the list for experienced and professional skiers, also figures on the international circuit. Conditions in Palandoken are suitable for winter sports from December to June, and its seven kilometre-long course is Turkey's longest. The total ski slope length is 30 kilometres and is situated between 2,200 and 3,176 metres.
There are two chair lifts in the ski area and the Dedeman Hotel also has a ski lift. Palandoken is just a five-minute drive from Erzurum and 15 minutes from the airport, a convenience matched by none of Turkey's other winter sports centres.
On the outskirts of Erzurum, this is Turkey's coldest and highest (3150 meters/ 10,300 feet), with good hotels, good conditions, good facilities, and plenty of snow.
Ski Lovers will certainly enjoy it!!!!
Georgian cathedral in Oskvank, built in the late 10th century on the three-aisle basilica plan, is the biggest in the region. There is something surrealistic to discover such a impressive, beautyful and big building in such a small, hidden in the mountains, village.
Cathedral is still in a relaively good shape - with remainings of frescoes and fine reliefs, and the main dome still in place.
For other examples of Georgian architecture in the area, please have a look on my Dörtkilise and Ishan pages.
I was not supposed to stay there but a friend of mine manage to convince me to splurge after a long...more
