The city is compact, and actually divided in 2 parts, the modern and the old. You can easily walk in both of them.
But there are also some useful tram lines(pic 1) local buses (pic 2), dolmus and taxis (pic 3). We didn’t use any of them as we stayed only for 2 days and we walked easily everywhere around.
You can walk next to the river that splits the city in 2 but another great alternative is to take a boat along the river!(pic 4) There are even gondolas here! (pic 5) No wonder why Eskisehir called Venice by some Turkish people :) There are some pricy private tours but I’ve read about some cheap boats too with no guide or other luxury though :) We didn’t have time to try any of the tours but I’m sure they will be great during summer months
Eskisehir stands at the crossroad of railways between Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
We used train from Istanbul and we arrived in Eskisehir after 4,5hours. The trip was comfortable, with a new train but kind of boring.
When we left the city for Ankara we used train again, this time it was an express train, we were in Ankara in 100’.
check www.tcdd.gov.tr for timetables.
The Train station of the city is located at the city center. From there you can walk around the modern part, find a hotel near by or take the tram to the picturesque old part of the city (or you can walk there in 25’)
Long distance buses will also take you to many cities in Turkey. The bus station is situated away from the center but it is connected with a tram line so you can reach the the city center.
