Situated on the Anatolian/Asian side of Istanbul,near Pendik/Kurtkoy.
40 km to Kadikoy,50 km to Taksim,motorway all the way just about.

Served by Havas shuttle bus,check their web pages for details,drops in Taksim, Levent,Kadikoy and Bostanci for boat links to the European side.Takes 50 mins max ish and costs between $5-8, depending on destination.
Local bus E9 goes to Bostanci (50 mins)also, E10 goes to Kadikoy pier (60 mins).

I think that the most comfortable way to get Istanbul is plane. For me it was 2h 45 minutes flight by Aeroflot. The price was EUR 205 to and back (Turkish Airlines was a bit more expensive). The airport is in 20 kilometers from the city. I know that there Havas bus company operates for the route between the airport and the city, although I used the hotel car (most of hotels offer a free transfer on arrival).

Istanbul has 2 airports
Ataturk Airport is situated in Europe near yesilkoy and its about 40 km far to the old city .
SabihaGokcen airport is situated on the Asian side of the city near yesilkoy and its also 50 km far from the Kadikoy ( center of asian side)
The majority of the hotels and accomodation places are situated on the european side and you have to think carefully to chhose the right airport to land and to depart.

A friend in the media industry in Turkey recommended SES JOY Tour travel agency to me in 2005. I traveled around Turkey in 2005 as well as the previous years but since 2005, I have been using the services of SES JOY Tour. I am very satisfied with my experience with them and in them handing my tickets within Turkey and outside Turkey too. I also purchased my tickets from Istanbul to Spain and back to Istanbul from them this summer. I highly recommend this company to anyone needing tickets within Turkey and beyond. The manager is Seda Saylam aand she speaks excellent English. She is she is very well-versed with what you might need that's realated to travel and is very friendly and professional at the same time.

If you are looking for a cheap flight between Istanbul and London, check out the rates offered by Easyjet.com. The downside of using Easyjet.com is that you will be flying into or out of London's Luton airport. Easyjet.com also offers flights between Istanbul and Basel.

Good airport - free highspeed internet. Large food court with Burger King and some restaurants. Shop assistants in the Turkish gift shop very unhelpful.
I saw a funny thing going through passport control. A short fat Muslim woman with a black veil (you could only see the eyes) was showing her passport but refused to show her face to the inspector. Her husband insisted she would only show it to a female member of staff. (I'm sure she was so amazingly good looking that just seeing her face would have incited urges in his parts). Even the Turkish inspector, presumably Muslim, thought this was ridiculous.
I doubt whether this was what Mohammed had in mind when he had his hallucinations a millenium and a half ago, and even if it was ... well ... what can you say

I have flown many airlines and I must say that I was not impressed with the service provided by Turkish Airlines when I flew roundtrip between London and Istanbul. There was no leg room and the stewardesses kept bumping into my arm. Hard to sleep on a flight when people are constantly banging into you. A good flight is when time seems to be passing very quickly. A bad flight makes the time drag on. Needless to say, the three-and-a-half hours I was on that airplane seemed to take an eternity.
