The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Saray) is sort of UNDER the beaten path. It's one of the coolest places to see in Istanbul--a huge underground water tank held up by hundreds of columns, a few of which have obviously once been used for other purposes...see my photo! Sometimes there are art exhibits held in here--it's a great place for an installation.

    ticket for the Cisterna

the Cisterne - an underground place with hundreds of columns and a very special atmosphere: music and dimmed lights - I am so happy, someone pointed that place out to us!!!!!!!
