Yesil Ev ( green House) is an boutique hotel with a beautiful restaurant facilities
In 1977 this mansion was up for sale and was taken under control by the Turkish Touring and Automobile Association. The old wooden building was so far beyond repair that, with the consent of the Commission for Ancient Monuments, it was demolished and rebuilt. The nineteen rooms and layout were carefully preserved and the exterior remade as an exact replica. The furnishings have been created in the style of a 19th century winter mansion. The building has an absolutely unrivaled location between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and at the same time offers visitors the warm, friendly atmosphere of an old Istanbul home. After the opening of this unique building in March 1984 as the Yesil Ev, it very quickly attained a world-wide reputation and was awarded in 1985 the medal for the year by “Europa Nostra”. Yesil Ev had, indeed, introduced the concept of true comfort and hygiene to this “derelict” district and opened a new epoch in Turkish tourism by combining modern standards with historical style.
The indoor restaurant in the lobby with its 19yy mansion style decoration and capacity of 80 people, serves the guests during the winter time.
This restaurant is incredible! The atmosphere is insane and beautiful and just perfect in every way. Right next to Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, this location is better then perfect, and the food is great. This is not one of those restaurant that you want to avoid because it is in a touristed area. Surrounded by little, expensive, touristy places, this restaurant is beutiful with an awesome atmpospher and real, quality food that is local. The setting is so peaceful and beautiful in the little garden with the fountain and such. The perfect place for dinner or a snack before heading out into the city again. Listen to the call to prayer and watch the sun set over Istanbul's famous and most beautiful sites. It's incredible
Favorite Dish: chicken or lamb curry are the best curry dishes I have ever had in my entire life, no exageration
apple tea of course
We picked this restaurant after reading online reviews.
The open garden was closed for the season when we dined, and we ate in the conservatory where every other occupied table was tourists without a local in sight. We felt rushed from start to finish and it is the only restaurant we have dined in where the bill arrived at our table before the wine or the starters. For a starter we ordered the mixed meze, which contained slices of reformed processed meat and tinned vegetables. For the main courses the meat could not be faulted but this was accompanied by a cup of rice about twenty cold french fries and veggies that were so overcooked that they were tasteless. Needless to say we did not order a sweet. My female partner twice got her wineglass re-filled and twice I was ignored.
For the price of this meal there are many other fine eatery establishments in sultanahmet, and for a third of the price there are many small reastauants offering much better fayre and much more attentive service.
We strongly recommend not to eat here, unless your preferences are for piano music and large groups of other tourists.
Kabasakal Caddesi 5. Very close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.
The restaurant of the hotel Yesil Ev(Green House). Nice interior garden with fountains, very quiet and fresh for summer. At night, dances and live music.
An oasis of calm in the middle of the Sultanhamet area. The restaurant is part of the Yesil Ev Hotel - one of the famed converted wooden buildings. In the shadey courtyard, tinkling fountains and the backdrop of the pale green-painted hotel, its a welcome break. No attempt at Ottoman - simple, linen tableclothes etc and without overly pandering to tourism, this is slightly more expensive than many of the nearby restaurants. But the food is good and there is no feeling of being rushed.
