Ali Sami Yen Stadi is the home of the football club Galatasaray SK in Istanbul, Turkey. It is named after the founder of the club, Ali Sami Yen. The stadium has a capacity of 24,990 (all-seater) and is situated in the Mecidiyeköy quarter of the Şişli district at the center of the city. Ali Sami Yen Stadium was inaugurated on December 14th, 1964, with a friendly game between Turkey and Bulgaria. Unfortunately, tragedy struck during the opening match: in one of the stands many people fell onto the first floor, which caused numerous injuries, but luckily none of them were fatal. Spotlights were added to the stadium in 1965, and night games began to be played (the lighting system was renovated in 1993). The stadium is made up of 2 identical lateral stands which are covered by a roof: the Numaralı (Numbered) stand, where the TV cameras are located; and the Kapali (Covered) stand, where the most fanatical team supporters usually view the games. The two other stands, behind the goal gates, are the Yeni Açık (New Open), with 2 tiers, and the Eski Açik (Old Open), with the electronic scoreboard. In the past, games were played in front of more than 40,000 spectators in this stadium, which is nicknamed "Hell" by Galatasaray's supporters because of its intimidating atmosphere and the enthusiastic support of the fans who often make mass use of torches, smoke, drums, flags and giant posters to create visual grandeur and apply psychological pressure on visiting teams. Ali Sami Yen is important for Galatasaray because it has seen many victories against renowned European football clubs, such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, AS Monaco, Leeds United, Deportivo La Coruna, PSG, Rangers and many others.

The construction works of the new stadium will begin at the end of 2007. The new stadium will have a capacity of 52,500, making it the largest private stadium owned by a club in Turkey. It will also feature a mobile pitch and a hydraulic dome at the top which can be closed in case of rain or snow. There are also plans for building a shopping mall and residential units as part of the Aslantepe Project Interior view of the new stadiumThe New Ali Sami Yen Stadium, also known as Aslantepe (Lion Hill) Arena, will be built in Seyrantepe, near Maslak financial district. The stadium's project was introduced to the Turkish press on May 11, 2007.[1] It will have a fully retractable roof and a seating capacity for 52,000 spectators, excluding the seats of the VIP lounges. The stadium will also have its own subway station. Construction works are scheduled to be completed in 23 months. Leave a Comment

Atatürk Olympic Stadium (Turkish: Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadi) located in Ikitelli, a district in the western outskirts of İstanbul, is the largest-capacity stadium of Turkey. Its construction began in 1999 and was completed in 2002. It was built for Turkey's Olympic Games bid and cost about 130 million TRY (100 million USD). With its 81,283 (all-seater) capacity and Olympic size, it was granted the "5-star sports complex" title by the UEFA in 2004, enabling it to host the finals of UEFA events. The stadium is also certified by the IAAF and IOC for athletic competitions. Atatürk Olympic Stadium has hosted some European athletic competitions. Galatasaray SK played its home games at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium during the 2003-2004 football season, due to the bad condition of their own venue, Ali Sami Yen Stadium, and this was criticized by other teams. Galatasaray eventually returned back to Ali Sami Yen for the 2004-2005 season, and is currently building a new 52,000-seater stadium with a retractable roof in the Seyrantepe neighbourhood near Maslak financial district. Sivasspor also played some of its home games at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium due to the bad weather conditions in their original hometown stadium. The 2005 Champions League final between A.C. Milan and Liverpool F.C. was played on May 25, 2005, at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. During the match, Liverpool were trailing 3-0 at half time but made the most dramatic comeback in the tournament's history, scoring 3 goals in just 6 minutes to bring the game to 3-3 by the end of normal time. No more goals were scored in extra time, bringing the game to penalties. Liverpool went on to win the shoot-out 3-2. Galatasaray have played their 2006-2007 Champions League games at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

you can see the palace and an erected a hotel too by neodue, 4 more photos When you check the photos of the stadium you can see it is located in the Dolmahce Palace. In 1940's it was possible to conctarct a stadium in a palace garden :) Alos this stadium named 3 times in it is all life. 1)Mithat pasha Stadium (ottoman period prime minister name) 2)Dolmabahce Stadium (name of the where is located 3)Inonu Stadium (This stadium constracted during his precidency) Besiktas Inönü Stadium (Turkish: Besiktas Inönü Stadyumu) is the home of the football club Besiktas J.K. in Istanbul, Turkey. It is located in Dolmabahçe, close to the elegant Dolmabahçe Palace in the district of Beşiktaş, on the European side of Istanbul. The stadium has a capacity of 32,145[2] (all-seater). BJK Inönü Stadium was designed by Italian architect Paolo Vietti Violi, who collaborated with Turkish architects Sinasi Sahingiray and Fazil Aysu for preparing the project. The stadium, formerly known as the Dolmabahçe Stadium due to its vicinity to Dolmabahçe Palace, was inaugurated on 19 May 1947 by Ismet Inönü, the second President of Turkey, and Lütfi Kirdar, the Governor of Istanbul. Interestingly, the first goal in this stadium was scored by Süleyman Seba, the most famous and longest-presiding Chairman of the club (in the 1980s and 1990s) when he used to be a player of Besiktas JK. According to the great football legend Pelé, BJK Inönü Stadium has the most beautiful view of any stadium in the world, is one of the world's most beautiful football venues, and is definitely the most beautiful stadium in Europe. While seated on the tribunes of this stadium, one can see the Bosphorus, Dolmabahçe Palace, Dolmabahçe Clock Tower, Dolmabahçe Mosque, and the famous Kız Kulesi (Maiden's Tower). It is the only stadium in the world from which a football fan can view two continents, Europe and Asia, which are separated by the Bosphorus. Leave a Comment

Fishermen by SirRichard At anytime you pass by the Galata Bridge you will be able to see fishermen on top. Many of them go there, and is incredible that the ferries don’t get trapped in the net of fishing threads that hang from the bridge. Local fishermen get mostly little fishes like sardines which they keep alive in water cans that they bring with them. Leave a Comment Theme: Fishing Trips

Inside the hammam (watercolor) by SirRichard If you wanna know how are the famous turkish baths like, try this one. Old, authentic and famous. Although the date of the construction and the name of the architect of the hamam is not known, it is said to have been built in the beginning of the 18th. century. It is also said that construction is one of Sinan's works of art. These double baths in which only the changing-rooms have been changed since 1969-1971 now consist of two parts, one of women and the other for men in a 2834 sq.m area. King Edward John VIII, Kaiser Wilhelm, Franz Liszt and Florance Nightingale have all been here for a royal experience. Besides today's well known personalities King Fahd, Rockefeller, Tony Curtis, Richard Harrison came to Cagaloglu Hamami during their visit to Istanbul. Some films were shooted here, from Indiana Jones to a commercial for visa card. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Yerebatan Caddesi (not far from St. Sophie)Phone: 5128553

sit a while... by TomorrowsAngel You can basically walk around all the prime sights of the old city in one day, but instead of just seeing them in brief; it's heaps better to divide and conquer the city's attractions by means of a number of DIY planned walks, taking a couple or three days. Istanbul isn't known for its golfing facilities, but there are a few courses close by if you're keen. The best swimming options are a day trip to Kilyos or Sile, or the closer Kizil Adalar (Princes' Islands). Most of Istanbul's pool facilities are privately owned and expensive; try sweet-talking reception staff at one of the big hotels into letting you use the pool. Gyms tend to be testosterone-fuelled, no-go-zones for women (i.e. read SCAAARRRY), with limited equipment - find a hotel gym instead. Turks have perfected the art of socialising, and game playing is an important ingredient. Any tea garden should be able to come up with a backgammon board for free if you ask, though if you want to play billiards or bowling you might have to head to Beyoglu. Not exactly hard-core sporty in the strictest sense of the word, but sitting and yarning over a narglieh is a quintessential Middle Eastern experience. Even if you're not a smoker you may be lured by the fruity and flowery tobacco concoctions. Shopping in the thousands of shops of the Kapali Carsi (Grand Bazaar) in Beyazit, and Misir Carsisi (the Egyptian market or Spice Bazaar) in Eminonu qualifies as exercise. And don't forget to try one of the many hamams (Turkish steam baths) to open those pores.
Bring yer walking shoes and someone you can read a map. Have some cash so you can buy some yummy shwarmas and a cold one for akil time. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
