Bebek is a historic Istanbul neighbourhood that falls within the boundaries and administration of the Besiktas district. It is located on the European shores of the Bosphorus and is surrounded by similarly affluent neighbourhoods such as Arnavutkoy, Etiler and Rumeli Hisarı.

The direct translation of the word "Bebek" from Turkish is "baby", which is a reference to the neighborhood's attractive positioning on the Bosphorus with its deep, sheltered bay and sweeping views in both directions along the waterway.

Bebek was a popular residential district under Ottoman rule, and continues to be so today. Its population reflected the diverse society of the time, which is still visible in Bebek's historic architecture and contemporary constituencies.

Bebek is also home to Bosphorus University, a public university established in 1971 that is one of Turkey's premier institutions of higher education. The University occupies the buildings and grounds of the now-defunct higher education division of Robert College - a historic American academic institution founded in 1863 by wealthy New York merchant Christopher Robert and American missionary and educator Cyrus Hamlin. Following the coeducational merger of the formerly all-male Robert College with sister school American College for Girls, all operations of the former were moved from Bebek to the wooded Arnavutkoy campus of the latter, where it continues to operate.

Bebek nowadays is a very popular spot of the city by locals and also by tourists, for its superb nightlife, fancy bars and cafes as like Lucca and others, branded shops, gourme markets ... Worth to visit to have a walk at the seaside with the Bosphorus view and enjoy a waffle topped with famous icecream of Bebek ... :)

Bebek is a very, very nice neighbourhood up the Bosphorus a little south of the Fatih Mehmet Bridge and Rumeli Hisari. It's just north of Arnavutkoy, another ritzy neighbourhood. It has nice views down the Bosphorus and some fashionable places to eat.

    One of the tea gardens

Another beautiful spot on Bosphorus, mostly preferred by elite locals of Istanbul. bebek has many cafes and tea gardens on seaside. Sunday breakfasts or brunches are very popular here. You will see many locals reading newspapers, enjoying the panaroma and drinking tea at the same time. It is a nice palce to spend time when the weather is nice.

    my friends on Bebek

under the Rumeli Hisar and the second bridge, Bebek provides its visitors with a great panaromic view of the Bosphorus. you can see the beautiful coasts of Uskudar in Anatolian part, the little boats on the European shores and the whole Bosphorus including the "Kiz Kulesi"

a walk along the seaside may be a good experience.

Bebek is an affluent neighborhood of Istanbul located along the Bosphorus, on the European side. Bebek, which means "Baby" in Turkish, has some excellent cafes and restaurants, many of them situated directly on the water. There is a lovely waterfront sidewalk here to take a leisurely stroll through the area, and many old and historic homes which are definately worth a look. Bebek is also home to the main campus of Bogaziçi University, located on the hilltop above the area. Here you will find some amazing views of the Bosphorus, as well as the Asian side.

    Bebek From the Top

Once, the Bay was for the fishing boats to secure themselves, now hosts the Ultra yachts and speed boats.. Probably one of most elegant district of Istanbul with so nice houses and best view of Bosphorus. Bebek is also one of the richest districts of Istanbul.

In the center of Bebek stood the Bebek mosque.. Also the entrance of the Bosphorus University is nearby.. If you have the courage to climb all the way up.. The view from the top is enormous.

Bebek is so nice to walk around. Walk on the coast and walk in the Bebek Park. Sit on a Bank and enjoy the beauty and silence. If you like desert, try he "Bebek Badem Ezmecisi".. A delicious Turkish desert.. Also there are very nice Cafes at Bebek..

How to reach bebek: There are regular buses from Eminonu, Besiktas & Taksim
