    I'm all ready sir!

Okay - I have in the past considered joining the Navy.

When I told Ivan this he burst out laughing. NOOOOO - they are not all gay. Well, maybe the ensigns are - but I wanted to be an officer.

Turkey's Naval Museum in the neighberhood of Besiktas is on the European Shore about 2.5 km northeast of the Galata Bridge. Admission is 3 million lira and another 5 million lira if you want the pass in order to take photos. In the museum you can find cannons, a partial old submarine, paintings, and a detailed account of the Naval engagements during the campaign at Gallipoli.

The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesdays.

The "Naval Museum" in Istanbul was closed down for about one year for renovation and for the addition of new ancient items and nowadays its in operation again with the new Gallery of many Ottoman Time boats, flags and concerning items ....

Its located at Besiktas, very easy reachable area with sea lines, public buses, even walking distance to several other areas as like Taksim and so ...

There is a nice Gift Shop inside the Museum which you can read my review about :
    Gift Shop

The entrance fee is 5.- TL, about 2.- USD per person. Its permitted to use camera inside and take photos, in some parts of the museum only "without" flash in order not to harm some ancient items.

Museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday, the other days to visit between 09am - 17pm.,

Here you can see more photos on my "Travelogues" of this great Museum ... :

A perfect Museum worth to visit .... :)

I read that the was built back in the 6th century AD as a church, was later converted (rather brutally) to a mosque, and then transformed to a museum by Attaturk. It's huge and beautiful; I can't imagine how they were able to build it back then!

The Naval Museum is located in Besiktas and I have to say was a bit dull. There's lots of gold-gilded wooden things that went on the front of boats, a few models of boats, some uniforms, medals, and paintings and that was about it. Since coming back home, I've found out that the museum has (or at least did have) some imperial barges but I never found them when I was there. Oh well, shame really as it would have made things a little interesting to have so boats at a Naval Museum!

    Open: 9am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-5pm Wed-Sun. Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. Admission: TL3 & TL6 for camera (which I wouldn't bother paying extra for).

    Naval Museum

The Chain shown was stretched across the golden horn to prevent the ottoman fleet from entering. The Ottomanns finally conquered Constaninople when they drug there boats overland to bypass the chain
