Pierre Loti is the pen name of French author Julien Viaud who lived in Istanbul in late 19th. century. He soon adopted Ottoman life style and very much liked spending time at cafes on Goldern Horn. He wrote his first novel "Aziyade" in Istanbul (1876). Turkish people liked this love story very much and the name of its hero is given to a cafe at Eyup. The name "Pierre Loti" is also given to his favourite cafe. Now, all district on the hill where the cafe is siutated is known as Pierre Loti. This place is a very popular among tourists. It has a lovely view of Golden Horn. New cafes, small hotels are built around Piere Loti in last years. Very recently (November 2005), a cable-car started to work between Eyup and Pierre Loti. It is very good idea to visit Eyup Sultan Mosque and then take the cable car and have a rest in Piere Loti. If you don't want to take the cable car, you can climb the hill passing through the famous Eyup cemetery. You may also have a great meal at Aziyade restaurant. They have very good service.

it is told to be a "must see" of Istanbul, but i didn't see :)

however i still suggest anyone who plans a travel to Istanbul; to visit this place and have a vup of tea in the cafes. The view of Golden Hron from the hill is said to be one of the most beautiful views on Earth.

    View from Pierloti.

Pierloti situated a bit away from the tourist centre this is usually on an itinery, with it's lovely view. The road there is less spectacular and can sometimes be grid locked.Parking is hit or miss at the other end.
Saying all that it's worth it for a bit of piece and quiet for a while.
Several cafes, restaurants and a nargile bar to entice you.

There's an splendid place where you can see a magnific view from Istambul. You can spend hours just tasting a tea on his terrace. Try to go when the Sun goes down to see the and gives its color to the water, it's the effect of the "Golden Horn"

It's called Pierre Lotti café in memorial to the French writer.

"The Pierre Loti Hill" has an incredible view of "Golden Horn and Eyüp" ...

Here you can watch my "HD Video" of "Pierre Loti Hill" ... :
    Video

The name "Pierre Loti" comes from the French writer and naval, traveller Pierre Loti( Louis Marie Julien Viaud ), who came to Istanbul in 1876 and often came to Pierre Loti hill.

Pierre Loti was a reowned French writer and traveller who lived between 1850 and 1923. He came first time in istanbul in 1876 by French ship as an officer in charge. Piere Loti was so impressed with İstanbul that he settled in Eyüp and always described himself Turk friend. The old name of the hill modified to "Pierre Loti Cafe" for gratitude to Pierre Loti.

The coffee culture on the hill, increased together with Pierre Loti. Viewing such a splendid scenery, Pierre Loti sometimes just drank his coffee for pleasure and sometimes coffee accompanied him when he was writing. And just like that, this place gained much more popularity. Since then most of the people coming here for a coffee have been amazed at both historical and natural beauties.

Climbing up to Pierre Loti with a "cable car" will give you an interesting time. On the cable car you will cheer up with the feeling as if the Golden Horn was within your arm’s reach.

Here you can read my "Pierre Loti Cable Car" Review ... :
