anadolu kavagi: Anadolu Kavagi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Anadolu Kavagi is the last stop of the Bosphorus ferry. It is a village on the Asian side of the strait. Here there are a lot of fishrestaurants, a few souvenir stalls and dondurma sellers. Everything for the daytrippers comming with the ferry.
On the hill above the village there is a castle from where the view is supposed to be great. Unfortunatly I couldn't make it there as the rain was really heavy.

anadolu kavagi: Where to visit.. Day 2 in Istanbul
  • Tip Rating:
  • After a long first day now you need to restore your memory, So I advice you to have a relaxing day and make a boat trip on the Bosphorus.. There are several excursion and small boats running a long the bosphorus, However I advice you to take a regular Ferry..

Ferries to the Bosphorus leaves from Eminonu, so take a tram and reach to Eminonu.. There are 3 ports at Eminonu and the ones running in the Bosphorus are leaving from number 3 port.. Ferries leaves at 10:35, 12:00 and 13,35 in summer.. The ferry ticket costs around 5 €

We call the Bosphorus ferry as the Begger Ferry, due that it stops almost in every port a long the Bosphorus waterway and Begs:) for passengers.. When you take the boat from Eminonu to Anadolu kavagi after a tour of around 1,5 hrs you will reach the fortress at the connection of Black sea.. During your tour you will see very nice houses, old buildings along the Bosphorus and you will enjoy travelling between Europe to Asia and back again.. Please care attention to the time schedule, Ferries only operates during summer season, during winter there is only one ferry leaving at around 6 pm..

When you reach the Anadolu kavagi, first thing to do is to learn the hours of return ferry, There are again three ferries returning back and choose your desired return time... Then you can climb up to the hill and reach the walls of Fortress. There you will see the Bosphorus meeting with the Black sea. A very nice panoramic view.

In Anadolu kavagi there are many nice fish restaurants you can have lunch in one of these fish restaurants and prices are relatively cheap. After touring in the small village and having eaten your lunch, now is the time to return. You can take the ferry back to Eminonu.

Do not forget to bring your camera with you with enough films on it. ,You shall have many snaps along the Bosphorus. You can also bring a book with you. It is nice to sit at the top of the fortress and read a book.

    anadolu kavagi: Anadolu Kavagi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Anadolu Kavagi is a little fishermen village in the asian side of the Bosphorus, near the Black Sea. You can go there using the local ferries that depart daily from the number 3 building at the Eminonu Pier. There are at least 2 boats daily. They take 2 hours to get there, stop there for 3 hours and return, so you have time enough for a nice lunch by the sea and a little walk around.
You can find more details on restaurants… at my “Anadolukavagi” page.
Don’t take organised tours for this, is very easy and cheap (5 euros return) to get there (see the prices at the pic).

    anadolu kavagi: Bosphorus cruise.
  • Tip Rating:
  • A cruise which it seems everyone does with 1 in winter 10.35 and 2 in summer from May 1,leaving at 10.35 and 13.35.Boat goes almost to the top of the Bosphorus and stops at Anadolu Kavagi.Return is at 15.00 and or 17.00.
Anadolu Kavagi is full of restaurants and if you want a trip upto the old fort.
If your lucky you could see dolphins swimming by,i've seen them twice.
    Trip takes 90 mins.

So, you've taken my advice and have arrived in Anadolu Kavagi, and now you're asking me why I've brought you here when there's nothing but fish restaurants and ice cream parlours. Well, ignore all the restaurant touts, and push your way through the village (push in the literal sense, as it can get quite crowded in summer!) to a road heading past the military base. Climb up and up, until you see a sign pointing to Yoros Castle (it is well hidden, so keep your eyes peeled...look out for steps leading to a cafe on the left). It is a steep, seemingly more so in the heat, so take plnty of water with you...it is worth it though, as you'll discover when you enter a ruined archway into an even more ruined castle. With panoramic views down the Bosphorus and up to the Black Sea, this is a popular place for a picnic.

While waiting for the boat, buy an ice cream and watch the local kids perform for the crowds by throwing somersaults of the roof of the ferry.

On the way back to Eminonu, look out for the summer houses or yalilar. Some of the older ones are really quite pretty, although a couple of the wooden ones could do with some renovation. Newer yalilar have been built by the nouveau riche and it is always fun to peer into their backyards to see if they have more money than sense! Taking the ferry is really the only way you can appreciate Istanbul's coastal buildings, as most of them are well hidden from the road.

This is the last stop of the ferry from Istanbul and located on the asian side.

There are nice restaurants at the bottom near the ferry's station and you can climb up the hill to the fortress to see the beautiful view of the bosphorus.
