Akmerkez is an shopping mall located in the Etiler quarter of Istanbul, Turkey. It was commissioned on December 18, 1993
The shopping area, offering visitors close to 250 stores, is spread over a triangular area connected to the surrounding main roads through 3 atriums. There are 41 escalators, 2 panoramic elevators and 30 elevators providing greater speed and easy access for visitors.

In 1995, Akmerkez was chosen as the best shopping center in Europe by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In the competition, organized by this same council, Akmerkez was recognized as the best shopping center in the world in 1996.

The shopping mall is now home to the world famous chic Italian restaurant Paper Moon, following branches in Milan and New York.

2-2.5 million people visit the shopping center monthly. It provides women's, men's and children's clothing and textiles, stationery, toys, sports shoes, eyewear and gift shops along with restaurants, a hairdresser, a currency exchange office, electronic goods, car maintenance, shoe shine services, a tailor, travel agents, orthopedic goods and a supermarket.

Kanyon Shopping Center: Canyon in istanbul :)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kanyon is a multi-purpose complex in the Levent financial district of Istanbul, Turkey, which consists of a shopping mall, a 30-floor office tower (26 floors of which rise above Büyükdere Avenue level) and a 22-floor residential block. It unites 179 residential apartments, an office tower and a 160 store retail space (covering an area of 37,500 m²) to undulate around a dramatic architectural “canyon” since its debut in June 2006.

The building features a special engineering technique which is used for the first time in the world: An air circulation system ventilates the open areas of the canyon-like mall and creates an invisible "thermostatic shield" enabling visitors to enjoy the open air regardless of the weather outside.

There are 160 Stores so there is no chance that you cant find what you are looking for :)

Akmerkez: one of big shopping centres
  • Tip Rating:
  • In 1995, Akmerkez was selected as "The Best Shopping Center in Europe" by the International Council of Shopping Centers, ICSC. In the competition organized by this same council, Akmerkez received the " Best Shopping Center In The World" award in 1996. It also received the highest accolade given by the ICSC the International Design and Development Award. Akmerkez is the first shopping center in the world to receive both of the above mentioned awards. In 1999, Akmerkez received the ICSC Solal Marketing Award in the "Community Relations" category
Akmerkez provides a wide range of products to it's visitors and has topped the world average of 85% occupancy with a leasing of 98%. The types of shops are determined by the "shop mix" method employed elsewhere around the world. Akmerkez, with its 246 shops, provides outstanding women's, men's and children's clothing and textiles, stationery, toys, sports, shoes, eyewear and gift shops along with restaurants, cinemas, hairdressers, banks, a currency exchange office, electronic goods, orthopedic goods, car accesories, shoe shine services, a tailor, a pet shop, and a supermarket for all the shoppers'needs.

    Shopping in Taksim
Long pedestrian street with lots of the shops on the each side and on the small adjoining streets.

Whatever you want to buy - turkish souvenirs, fresh fish, fruits, sweets, branded clothers or fake from Gucci or Prada - you will find it in Taxim.

Dont forget to bargain with a sellers - u can get at least half of the price. Especially if you buy more than one thing. And if you pay cash - you can get even more discount everywhere

Bagdat Caddesi: All Your Clothing Needs
This is one of the city's most well-known streets. It is analagous to Rome's Via Condotti or Paris' Champs Elyesee, in that it houses all of the high-end fashion. While expensive for Istanbul standards, it doesn't even come close to the other two. If you didn't know about Istanbul's style and find out that you want to look stylish in the clubs, this is the place you should come. My favorite store was Vakko, as it was a brand I had never heard of or seen, obviously because it is Turkish and I had never been to Turkey! Why would you want to buy Prada or Columbia in Turkey?

It is located on the Asian side, and can easily be walked to from the ferry terminal or by taxi/bus.
