  • Yeditepe to Sile

    by 2WheelPioneer Written Jul 9, 2012

I am studying abroad at Yeditepe University and would love to spend a free weekend in Sile. I have an Istanbul Kart (prepaid bus card), can I use it on the 139 bus to Sile, or will I have to go to Harem and purchase a ticket? Any and all information is very much appreciated!

Also, a cheap hotel, hostel, or cabin recommendation would be great.

    Transportation to\from Sile

Sile could be reached by Istanbul city buses 139 and 139A. Stop is on Harem bus station, not so far from Uskudar ferry terminal, so if you get there from, let say, European side of Istanbul, you should use Bosporus ferry from Eminonu or other place.

As Sile is about 50 kilometers from Istanbul, I expected about one hour to get there, but it took two hours. Also a bus back (Express) took one hour 50 minutes, but information desk told it should take just one hour :)

As traditionally, bus drivers very quite loud by using bleeps, doesn’t matter if they really needed that or not ;) Anyway, that doesn’t help for Express bus to reach Istanbul in faster way.

    Bus to Sile.

by Tdiver Updated May 19, 2007

2/3 buses go to Sile, the 139 and the 139A, from Harem bus station on the Asian side and maybe the 169 from Uskudar, can't find much on it but supposedly takes 45 minutes, try THIS LINK.
You can catch a conventional ferry across from the European side.
Travelling time is 127 minutes according to the 139 timetable.
From the web page below,on the LEFT click under Hat Arama( seciniz ), this will bring up a list of every bus route, so choose 139,Harem-Sile.
139 has 57 stops, the 139A has 70 to Sile so 139 seems better.
Once chosen you can check departure times by clicking on (SAAT ).
As you will see buses start at 06.30 and last one is at 21.00,coming back.
Is gunleri is Monday to Friday.
    Cumartesi is Saturday.
Pazar/Tatil is Sunday or National Holiday.
( Detay ) will give you a list of every stop.
Sorry i don't know the price.

    Buses to Sile

by amazingclick Written Oct 24, 2006

Turkey govt. runs buses every hour from Istanbul to Sile. Good small buses. Costs 6 Turkish Lira for a one way trip. Basically you have to take a ferry from Nimomu in Istanbul to the bus Station (I am totally forgetting the name). From there, buses ply every hour to Sile. It runs packed.

  • I got there by car, but buses goes there too

Sile is ~60 km from Istanbul (Uskudar). Buses are running everywhere in Turkey and also to Sile.
Since I got there by car from Istanbul I'm not sure where the bus station in Sile is or which bus company goes when and from where in Istanbul (if you are there).
The main road from Istanbul to Sile is of good standard (highway). Maybe since some people living in Sile commuting to their job in Istanbul?
Some cows came strolling by while we were eating. They were not as their indian cousins since they didn't go onto the highway ;)

Luckily the cows walked beside the main road!

If you are with private car, take Umraniye - Sile road. From Sile, take the sea road or mountain road (40 km) to Agva.

If you will take the bus, behind Uskudar Merkez Camii, buses depart. Call their office for the hours. When you reach to Agva, call your hotel, they may come, pick u from centre of Agva. For instance Hotel Tranquilla provides this service.

Below is the number for office of the buses.

We took the bus from Istanbul to Sile and back last week.

    Remarks to this:
    - there is a schedule in the internet, but the bus often does not follow the schedule
    - 139A is faster than 139
    - duration from Harem to Sile was about 2 hours
    - there is a bus stop in Harem for line 139 and 139A, but the bus didnt stop there,
so you have to look out for the bus and then run to it ;-)
The bus is marked with Üsküdar-Sile-Agva on the side, so can easily recognize
    - the price was 9,5 TL for each person
    - the bus was quite full, about 10 persons had no seats
