  • Yeditepe to Sile

    Sile Transportation

I am studying abroad at Yeditepe University and would love to spend a free weekend in Sile. I have an Istanbul Kart (prepaid bus card), can I use it on the 139 bus to Sile, or will I have to go to Harem and purchase a ticket? Any and all information is very much appreciated! Also, a cheap hotel, hostel, or cabin recommendation would be great.

  • Sile and baklava

    Sile Favorites

As Sile is more off the beaten path place, naturally here the prices of baklavas or other sweets are less expensive than in Istanbul center. Let say, one kilogram of baklava here we got for 8,10 euros, but in Istanbul it was 11 euros and more. So we used such opportunity and tried different species of so sweet Turkish baklavas. It is, I should...

    Kadikoy Things to Do

There are many sculptures in some streets but the most notable is Altiyol, a bull at a square that is an intersection of 6 streets (hence the name Altiyol), usually a popular meeting point for locals and nice spot for pictures. We saw many couples posing in front of it so we got one of us too :)Walking around Kadikoy we saw some more sculptures,...

    Kadikoy Restaurants

THIS PLACE IS CLOSED NOW.This is a small restaurant in Moda, just across Ali Usta, the famous icecream shop. It has 4-6 tables only and serve Mexican food, which is rare in Kadikoy. We stopped by before we went to theatre once and tried their special Mexican meatballs (stuffed meatballs actually) and fajita. I don't recommend you the fajita but the...

This a tiny café that serves original Turkish coffee, they also sell freshly roasted genuine Turkish coffee. We enjoyed our coffee on a rainy morning when people were passing by rushing to get to their homes. The coffee was served with a lokum,...

    Kinaliada Warnings and Dangers

There are none!Don't miss the last ferry off the island, or you'll be sleeping on the beach...The bigger islands (Büyükada + Burgazada) have hotels.Of course part of the charm of the island is the virtual total absence of touroids.

    Kinaliada Warnings and Dangers

There are none on the island! (Or at least the last time I visitied>) Bring your own cash! The nearest ATM is on the nearby island Büyükada, or back on the Asian side of Istanbul (at the Kadiköy ferry terminal). Both are a 30 minute ferry trip away, and now use after the last ferries have sailed!

This place is a bit of an institution on the island. Its in 2 parts - a patisserie and a restaurant. I've never tried the restaurant side. Cafe on the Bosporus

by DSwede Written Jan 19, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ortakoy is a relatively small neighborhood along the Bosporus on the west side. It is perfect for a walk, a departure point for a Bosporus tour/cruise, but you would be remiss if you did not wait in line for a table to have a cafe and watch the people, boats and the Ortakoy cami.
