    Tango nights in AGRILIA

by onurozel Updated Mar 14, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

the activity takes place in every 2 weeks on saturdays in the place called AGRILIA. You dont have to dance Tango so as to join but I believe is a nice atmospghere to share the rythm. The place is also known for its cakes and pastries in the daytime well as good dishes at the nigt time. The place used to be a barn before its redecoration by its owners. I can easily say that the place has a different decoration which gives a good sense.

    Erythrai

by Tdiver Updated Jan 30, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Directly north on the map not of course by road we found this site thanks to the diving instructor i was going to dive with but then couldn't.As we were just standing around talking in Ildir he suggested visiting Erythrai.During the 7th and 8th centuries B.C. it was 1 of the 12 major Ionian cities of Asia Minor.Invaded and damagad first by the Lydians and then the Persians it had recovered by the 14th century B.C.Later it was conquered by the kingdom of Pergamon in2B.C. and then became a colony of the Roman empire.During that time the area took the name Cyssus. It was under control of the Byzantine Empire until 1081,then it was taken by the turcomans under Caka Bey and the name changed to Ildiri. With great views and a not too big an area to cover it's great for kids and oldies alike, but the walk up to the old greek church on top is difficult. We found a couple of great cafes in the town just below, the Sirin especially.

View from the top of Erythrai hill Another view from the top Erythrai amphitheatre 1 of the great local snack and view cafes

Just off the main square and now a mosque, you can still see it's old roots in it's architecture.
There is an antique market by it on saturdays and sundays.

Back of the mosque. Street up to the mosque. Old monastery, Alacati. Old monastery, Alacati.
