Balcova is located at the edge of Izmir. It is located approximately 10 kilometers from the center of Izmir. Balcova is easily accessible by bus from the city-center.
Remember two bus lines: Bus nr.86 and bus nr.169.
Bus 86 departs from the bus-stop vis-a-vis Alsancak Train Station, drives through Basmane, by the rear side of the Basar ( Kemeralti) and the long Inonu-Street, through Uckuyular-Fahrettin Altay Square.
Bus 169 departs from the same bus-stop as bus 86 but drives closer to the Gulf, in the second street (after the promenade) in relation to the Gulf, by the front side of the Basar
( Kemeralti) and in the Starnd Boulevard.
Both bus lines have very frequent departures.
Balcova is one of the main shopping districts of Izmir. The main shopping street-Ata Caddesi-is crowded, very much trafficked and tiring; but along the street there are over hundred shops: Gold-jewellery shops, shops selling clothings, opticians etc. One thing you miss in your shopping activity is the cafes.
What makes Balcova one of the leading shopping districts of Izmir is the shopping centers: Agora ( with cinema), Palmiye ( with cinema), Migros, Kipa and Ozdilek.
What to buy: In Balcova you can buy almost everything.
What to pay: The big shopping centers are not necessarily expensive for thequality.
Balcova Warnings and Dangers
At the rear side of Balcova Termal Hotel and Izmir Princess Hotel, there are wonderful walking roads. Tens of people walk in the beautiful forest area. The road starts at Balcova Termal. Though many people walk in the area, it is large and sometimes you do not meet any people in sections of the area. Therefore it is advisable that you should not walk alone; my suggestion is that there will be at least three persons in a walking group. Do not have valuable belongings with you such that you do not attract the attention of the people with bad intentions ( though very small chance to meet that type of people). My advise is also in case you have a health problem.
One thing to keep in mind is that there may be some free dogs; it would be useful for one in the group to have a stick.
