    Bergama Onyx

    what we paid for

    Hello,

This is sad news because for the most part we really enjoyed our 2 weeks in Turkey (October 2013).

At the Bergama Onyx factory after many hours debate we purchased 5 items for 2,300 euros (bargained? down from over 5,000).

1)The deal was that through a tourist incentive program we would receive a refund on our turkish taxes
    2) 5 items, plus 2 'gifts' (which they brow beat us for not tipping for until we tried returning them) would be shipped. The 5 items are in the first picture
    3) arrival date was to be within 1 month
    4) Items where to be insured

    REALITY
    1) while there IS a tax refund program they do not seem to participate, we paid tax twice
    2) they shipped 1 item
    3) it arrived after 3 months
    4) Item was NOT insured
BROKEN. the one item which arrived busted is the second picture

    BEWARE
After a few phone calls we found someone who spoke english but refused to promise anything. She did say that several other packages have arrived broken too (given the lack of packaging it was not surprising).

    Bergama, apple tea

    CAJ ( chay)

Well my personal favorite is ELMA CAJ, apple tea :)
It is served in special glasses like on the pic.
You can drink cold with ice or hot elma tea, it tastes great anyway :))
I even bought tea and glasses to take with me.

    turkish carpets

Silk bug and creating silk, then coloring silk with natural plant colors. Hand made caprets by those hard working girls and final product at the end :) They make it from wool, cottong and silk. The most expensive ones are made of silk naturaly. But they say they make them to last for generations and generations.

Cool, but expensive... some silk carpets cost arround 20 000 euros. It took 4 years to make it. Anyway it is free to watch LOL

Please check all 5 pics to see the whole proces!

Find some onyx factory near Bergama. They have showen us the proces of making one onyx egg. See the rest of the pics for that. The make various products, dishes, eggs, chess boards and figures (cost more than 200 euros). It is very interesting to see how it works :)
