Metro Bus to Bergama from Istanbul

    by June.b Updated Apr 4, 2011

Metro Turizm bus travels to Bergama direct from the main Otogar station. The good thing is - Metro bus goes direct to Bergama city centre. It will first pass by the main terminal in Bergama which is about 7 kilometers from the city centre, but the driver or the bus steward will tell you not to get down there because they will proceed to the main city bus stop.

And that's convenient, so you don't need to travel from the main bus terminal to the city centre.

The bus trip takes about 9 and a half hours from Istanbul's otogar to Bergama's city centre.

As usual, Metro is comfortable and bus temperature is warm during winter.

Bergama is situated 110 km to the north from Izmir. You can get to Bergama from Izmir by bus (1,5 hours in a way). Unfortunately, as I could learn from a guide-book, neither buses, nor dolmushes go to the Acropolis so you can reach the sight by walk or rent a car. It’s rather difficult because the Hill is high enough.

We got to the Acropolis Hill by our excursion bus. It made several rounds around the hill when droved upstairs. The road was very picturesque.

Taxi up or Private cars going down

    by June.b Written Jan 23, 2008

There are lots of taxis around Bergama, if you want to start your trip from the top of the Acropolis, take a taxi, and work your way down to the city centre.

If you started the Pergamum exploration (LOL!) from down going up, then you might be tired to do the same walking down. So like we did, once we reached the top of the mountain, we talked to one of the shop owner (the last shop) who by the way is about to close his shop, to take us down up to the red basilica (near our pension) - for 10 Lira.
