Gölcük is located over Bozdag and it is a natural lake. Altitude is 1050 meters and it is full snowly in all winter season. It is only 130 km to Izmir and 18 km. away from Bozdag Ski Centre.
Since Seljuk times local people of Bozdag district have sought refuge in Gölcük from the nearby lowlands during the hot summer months. Livestock are reared and the farmers grow fruit, cereals and potatoes here, in contrast to the vines, fruit, olives and cotton cultivated on the coastal plains. Many rural villages and mountain settlements in Turkey are decaying as the population migrates to the cities, but in Bozdag around Gölcük Lake during the summer all the accommodation is occupied by local people.
