I know it sounds silly, but bring a brolly with you to Ephesus, there is hardly any shade on your way round, and with temp reaching 50 degrees, you will be glad you did

Take a huge bottle of water, and I mean WATER, not beer or coke, and maybe some somewhat sugared juice with you.
It took us almost two hours to walk through the city and still we didnt have time to stay too long and look around too well! It would take a lot longer to look around properly. And in the summer, the city is very hot and crowded.. so you'll need to keep up you hydration and bloodsugar.
Take a hat!!! Covering your head from the direct sun is the best way to avoid sunstroke! Mind it is very hot in there as the city is quite "low" and there's no wind blowing whatsoever. Take good shoes as you'll end up walking a lot.
Be prepared to take photos A LOT!
