 | Izmir Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 44 | | ACIKTIM. Ok, you will find many good restaurants in Izmir to taste the great Turkish cousine but if you’re out of money and you visit Bornova district this is the place for you. In Aciktim for less than 2 euro (!!) I ate a tasty tomato soup(domates corbasi), a plate with vegetables and chicken(Turlu), a plate with rice (pilav), tzatzik (cacik) and bread (ekmek). Yes, it was very nice :) There was no tourist around, only locals, students, workers etc Noone spoke english too :)
I also loved the desert at the end. It was the famous Sutlac (rice and milk), simple and good! Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Suvari Caddesi No:56Directions: close to Bornova metro station

There were many small restaurants serving kebab around Konak square, in Alsancak etc MANISAJI was one of them I visited. It has a big variety of kebab plates, good yogurts and some not so nice salads. I also drunk Ayran a strange drink made out of salted yogurt, diluted with water! I don’t think I payed more than 6 euros that night. . Yes, food is cheap in Izmir.

One cheap and tasty thing to eat is simit. You will find it everywhere because many street vendors sell it. I saw many small kiosks selling simit in Izmir as in every city in Turkey. I used to have two of them every morning with my tea. We call it koulouri in Greece but it is just the same thing, a circular bread with sesame seeds. Very common in other Balkan countries too simit is eaten plain or for breakfast with cheese. That’s why in some of the kiosks they sell cheese too. Most of the times they also sell small sandwiches with tomato and cheese. Izmir’s cuisine has largely been affected by its multicultural history, hence the large variety of food originating from the Aegean, Mediterranean and Anatolian regions. Another factor is the large area of land surrounding the region which grows a rich selection of vegetables. Some of the common dishes found here are tarhana soup (made from dried yoghurt and tomatoes), Izmir meatballs, keskek (boiled wheat with meat) zerde (sweetened rice with saffron) and mucver (made from squash and eggs). Sorry there is no theme for Mediterranean cuisine!!! Yes,I am a fan of Mediterranean cuisine..healty,tasty,fishy and yummy:) It is a natural diet, you may eat whatever you want but no kilos..trust me!! No matter which country it is,Greek,Italian,Turkish,Lebanese,Tunisia,or Spanish..They all have amazing taste.. As you know[very few of you:)] that Turkish cuisine has huge legacy of Ottoman heritage..from Middle east to Blacksea, from Central Asia to Balkans and from Caucasias to Mediterranean..and Turkish Mediterranean cuisine is a part of whole family.. Kare is new opened restaurant in Izmir, very stylised place..
