Antiques and old things from old Izmir
  • Tip Rating:
  • This shop is situated also in Kizlaragasi han and i found some very interesting old things from old Izmir, from 1922 and before, when Greeks were leaving there. I found old greek books and some very nice pieces which always will remind the history of Smirna (Izmir).

    The Kizlaragasi Han
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Kizlaragasi Han (inn), a fine example of 18th-century Ottoman architecture of the period, is my favourite bazaar in Izmir. Especially I always buy very beautiful ceramics from some shops in this bazaar, and I always enjoy a turkish coffee in any of the most nice cafe of the town, which are situated inside this old building

Ceramics, silver jewelry, carpets, traditional gifts

    Shopping area: Kemeralti Bazzar

  • Kemeralti is a general shopping area in the heart of the city. I could say that it is a typical bazzar, where you can find anything to buy , in very good prices..

clothes, shoes, antiques, local crafts, gifts, jewelry

    the big bazaar(Kemeralti)
  • Tip Rating:
  • In fact the big bazaar is not so big as the one in Istanbul but it is situated in an old building with many interesting shops for carpets with nice carvings, silver things (I found some great glasses), dried fruits, evil eyes (thousands of them!), antiques, leathers, gold accessories, handmade ceramics, and of course many souvenir shops.

What I liked most was that in many parts the locals were there to shop and not only tourists. Go also inside Kislaragasi Han, the covered old market of 1744 that hold many souvenir shops. Don’t forget to have a cafe or tea in the small traditional cafes next to bazaar.

    KIZLARAGASI HAN: SHOPPING IN IZMIR
  • Tip Rating:
  • KIZLARAGASI HAN:
There are many shop sells antiques, old stuff, second hand etc.
Anatolian and Ottoman Antiques varying from chests made of mahogany, walnut and pine, old copper kitchen utensils, terracottas, wooden boxes, to unique embroderies made with gold or colored threads. Antique money, watch, comb cases and purses made of very fine work with silk thread which is achieved by doing crochet but by using a needle instead of a crochet hook plus other exquisite items.

The busiest shopping area is the Kemeralti Streets, which still retain a 19th century atmosphere of pull-down shutters, thresholds of the doors, low ceilings and old briquettes. On both sides of Anafartalar Caddesi is the lively atmosphere of the street vendors, bronze workers and fishermen, and Fevzipasa Bulvari which is famous for its leather garments. In contrast to the traditional and busy old market, Alsacak has modern boutiques and Cankaya has a huge shopping centre much.

    taste lokums!
  • Tip Rating:
  • The famous turkish delight is Lokum. You will find lokums in many different sizes and tastes. Try as much as you can! What's more, it is a great gift too because there are many places where you buy it in a box. Lokum is made from sugar, water and starch. Simple but nice! Some cafes serve a lokum with the Turkish coffee.

    Other shopping locations.
  • Tip Rating:
  • The main street in Karsiyaka, is not the only place for shopping in Izmir. There are more: Konak (Kemeralti), Alsancak, Guzelyali are the other important ones. There are many cloth and shoe stores. I'll try to put pictures of those places. Also there are a lot of malls in Izmir such as EGS Park in Karsiyaka, Agora, Ozdilek in Balcova. There are more...

    Evil Eye Beads

    buy one for protection :)

    Send Photo to a Friend
The famous blue/yellow/white beads that protect people from evil eye are cheap enough for every friend you have back home!

In Greece and Turkey the evil eye jewelry is very common. Colourful beads, bracelets and necklaces. This popular symbol is common to see it on almost anything, from babies to walls! The evil eye is a folklore belief that the envy elicited by the good luck of fortunate people may result in their misfortune! They believe that some people can bestow a curse on victims by the malevolent gaze of their magical eye. The most common form, however, attributes the cause to envy, with the envious person casting the evil eye doing so unintentionally. Believe it or not it’s nice to buy one for souvenir. That’s what I did! :)
