Well I travelled from Istanbul to Selcuk direct and it cost me 13 million Liras ($13 us dollars) The journey was an overnight journey about 12 hours and by coach. comfortable and secure. With hostess service. All coach companies provide these services cheaper then flying.ANd likewise out of Selcuk you get coaches going everywhere.
it's all walking distance but you could hire a taxi but then when you going to Ephesus you can be dropped of at the North gate and walk down to the south gate.
But I found walking more relaxing and u can enjoy more of the surroundings.

Coming from Greece: airfares are quite expensive, one can alternatively take the boat from the island of Chios, mornings at 8.30- return evenings at 18.30 exc. Sundays, get to the Turkish side at Cesme and take the bus (1 hrs ride) from there to Izmir.

Turkish Airlines from Heathrow or Zurich. Take a taxi from Adnan Menderes airport to downtown; taxis are cheap in Izmir.
Buses if you know enough Turkish to buy tickets and comprehend the routes. Otherwise, use taxis; they're cheap. The Hilton is in the middle of town; if you get lost in an outlying district, get a taxi to take you to the Hilton.

During your visit in Ýzmir, you should also take a boat ride to enjoy Izmir gulf. There are regular boat trips so you won't need to wait too long. You can take some nice pictures on the boat.
