Bergama is famous as the city which was the ancient Greek and Roman cultural center of Pergamon and because the Pergamenes invented a new substance to use in codices, called pergaminus or pergamena (parchment) after the city. Its ancient ruins continue to attract considerable tourist interest today and lie to the north and west of the modern city. Meryemana

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

It is believed by many Christians and Muslims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this place by Saint John and lived in the stone house until her Assumption into Heaven according to Catholics or Dormition according to the Orthodox.Neither the Roman Catholic Church nor the Greek Orthodox Church has never pronounced on the authenticity of the house. Nevertheless several Popes visited the place and it matters something! You can watch my 3 min 32 sec Video clip Meryemana with Vivaldi – Concerto in Cmaj for two trumpets,2 min 36 sec Video clip Meryemana Slide-show with Khachaturian – Suite from “Lancy Ball”.Learn more out of my Meryemana VT page.

Ephesus

Ephesus (Turkish Efes) was a city of ancient Anatolia. During the period known as Classical Greece it was located in Ionia.Ephesus was one of the seven churches of Asia cited in the Book of Revelation. The Gospel of John might have been written here. It is also the site of a large gladiator graveyard. The ruins of Ephesus are a favorite international and local tourist attraction. In fact Ephesus contains the largest collection of Roman ruins East of the Mediterranean. Only an estimated 15% has been excavated. You can watch my 3 min 33 sec Video clip Ephesus Part I with J.Bach – Air From Suite No.3 in R Minor music,3 min 19 sec Video clip Ephesus Part II with J.Bach – Air on the D String, from Orchestral Suite No.4 music,2 min 57 sec Video clip Ephesus Part III with Mozart – Allegro From Divertimento in Dmaj music,2 min 35 sec Video clip Ephesus Part IV with Mozart – Andante from Piano...

Izmir

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Izmir also has its Greek name Smyrna. Izmir is almost 3,500 years old. It has more than 3 million people and is Turkey's third most populous city. Izmir was nearly destroyed by fire in September 1922. Izmir was badly damaged by earthquakes in 1928 and again in 1939. So it has quite a modern view now without many ancient or medieval sights. May be that’s why tourist groups (like ours) usually make a short stop there before visiting other sites at the Aegean coast of Turkey. You can watch my 3 min 43 sec Video clip Izmir around by bus with Turkish pop music by Izel – York Yere,4 min 07 sec Video clip Izmir Konak with Turkish pop music by Kenan Dogulu – Demedi Deme,4 min 15 sec Video clip Izmir Konak Slide-show with Turkish pop music by Ebru Gundes - Telafi.Learn more out of my Izmir VT page.

Most of the good pubs and cafes are located in the city Center. Just a few meter from see. It is a good place to meet new people and have a walk. You can drink your beer (which is also cheap) and see the Izmir Bay.
