Esrefoglu Mosque was built in 1299 and it differs from many other mosques in Turkey. It's not formed from cupolas and has jut one minaret. Actually, the square massive building is not impressive at all. The only traditional ornaments outside are at the entrance. But it became one of my favourite mosque interior. When first entering the mosque- it seems much darker than usually because of dark wooden columns and small stained glass windows. Then you start noticing fine carvings on the colums and turquoise tileworks. There's a kind of pool in the center of the mosque - local imam told us it was also used like watercollector when buit- and above it is a great hole cut in roof, now covered in glass for for protection. And the sun-rays coming through that hole creates wonderfull play of light and shadows.

The Hittite monument situated in Beysehir's depending locality of Eflatunpinar, at a short distance to the northeast from the town, proves that the Hittite Empire had reached as far as the region, marking in fact, in the light of present knowledge, the limits of their extension to the southwest. Evidence points out that an earlier settlement, dating back to the Neolithic Age, was also located in Eflatunpinar. Another important early settlement was located in Erbaba Höyük, situated 10 km (6 mil) to the southwest of Beysehir. (Don't miss the turn near the fountain.)

Take a boat trip in the lake for 1-2 hours. Very cheap. There are 33 island in the lake but they all empty for protection. You may visit one of them or just look around.

ILGIN is a small town of Konya. It is close to Beysehir. There is a nice kervansaray (caravanserai), mosque etc. complex there.

Behind the Caravanserai there is an another small mosque. Just in front of the mosque you may see "charity stone". Once upon a time, at night, after the "namaz" people were leaving some money there, and poor people could take them easily at night.
