Aigai (Nemrutkale)

by karaagac

Aigai (Nemrutkale), which was one of the 12 Aiol cities mentioned by Heroditus, is situated on a hill four-five kilometers to the south of Köseler Village. The history of the city, goes back to B.C.8th century according to the archeological data and historians. It was established in an area which was not sufficient enough for trade. As a consequence of the city's insufficient geographical and economical conditions, the city was unable to create a political power. There are the ruins of "Apollon Khrestenese" in the bed of Koca Dere, about 7-8 km south of Aigai. The city walls were built to match the geographical features of the area. An Agora structure with a stoa on the facade and great supporting walls that carry this strucucture, the ruins of Bouleterion in the north of agora, the stadium with terraced walls in the south, the Theatre and the Temple of Demeter in the west and the ruins...

The Weeping Rock of NIOBE

by karaagac

There have been different touching stories since the old ages about the formation which is called the weeping rock by the locals, and it has become one of the symbols of Manisa. When you follow the road from the famous Red Bridge, walking under the plane trees 500 m up along the Çaybasi Stream, you find a fountain at the end of the road. If you turn your back to the stream, on the rocks to the north, you will be able to see a silhouette of a woman with long hair who is supposedly crying. When the sun reflect on the rock from the other side, the silhouette becomes more vivid.

In the 16th Century they were brought to Holland from Turkey, and quickly became widely popular. Today Tulips are cultivated in Holland in great numbers and in huge fields. Dutch bulbs, including tulips and daffodils, are exported all around the world so people thinks that it's originated from there as well. In the spring time it can be found at many places in Manisa, especially on the Spil Mountain.
