    Yachting: Bodrum Annual Cup Race

by Lyndra Written Feb 14, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Each October, in what is traditionally the last week of the tourist season, Bodrum holds its annual yacht regatta. Any nationality can enter their boat and the town becomes quite busy in this week. Nightlife is supposed to be quite good as the yacht crews finish their days work. I love boats but know very little about the sport so this tip is really a referral for boat lovers to the official site: www.bodrumcup.com

    OK

Scuba Diving - well what can I say - I'm a PADI Divemaster and therefore love to dive, I would recommend diving to anyone who is fit enough to do it, but just not here. I have to say it was not worth the effort - i could count on one hand the things I encountered during both dives the day I went. I cannot comment on other dive sites but should anyone suggest diving here - DON'T SIGN UP - trust me.

Great Booking Agent! Tours, Diving, Boat Trips

by stappm Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As recommended by a friend and diver, I booked a diving day with Morning Tour and the day was great. I am not a certified diver and went with an instructor. there were a few certified divers and even some non-divers on our boat that day. We did 2 dives and the certified divers did an additional dive. They also offered snorkel gear for all as well as Lunch and hotel pick-up drop off. They go out rain or shine.. our day started with rain and ended with sunshine :)

they dive was 75 TYL per person and I believe 15 TYL for a non-diver.

Morning Tour can also book other local tours for Boat trips, Turkish Bath, Ferry to Kos, Village Tours... even airport transfers...

Equipment: All the scuba gear was included and the wet suit did not smell... yeah!

Bodrum (and the other resorts on the peninsula) is a haven for people who want to do water sports - snorkelling, fishing trips, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing and wind surfing are all available at very reasonable rates. Follow the usual precautions and ensure that the schools you use to taech you have international qualifications available and check their websites to ensure that you meet any health and prior experience requirements. The town also has one Tennis Club.

Akyarlar offers good camping sites and is an ideal place for wind surfing. It has marvelous scenery of the Greek islands and it has safe and sandy beaches for children. Several cafes and a tiny harbor welcome the visitors. Those looking for an accommodation have camping facilities and inexpensive pensions at this quite place.

Equipment: all kinda surfing equipment... if you do not have there are some places you can rent...

The bars and clubs play significant matches and bars will fill with locals wanting to have a quick drink and shout at the big screens.
Turks are as passionate about footballl as Brits are!
Main teams you will see supported are Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe but Bodrum has its own team called Bodrumspor.

    Scuba diving near Bodrum

by adelinemmc Written Jul 12, 2007

There are a lot of diving centres to choose from in Bodrum and also one in Turgureis.

WARNING: this area of the Med is devoid of coral and fish. For a confirmed diver, there is hardly anything to see apart from a few bits of amphoras and the odd octopus (generally being harassed by the local dive guide).

Bodrum is probably a good place to learn to dive but has nothing much to offer to teh confirmed diver, in my opinion.

Equipment: You can hire everything locally. The gear I rented was OK without being great (main reg was a bit wet, first jacket I tried did not inflate). Bring your computer if you have one.

  • Windsurfing in Kadikalesi, Turgutreis, Bodrum

    by lodonboy1976 Updated Sep 24, 2010

I am a very keen windsurfer and have been windsurfing all over the Bodrum peninsular (Gumusluk , Akyarlar, Bitez, Camel Beach, Guvercinlik, Ortakent) and also at Alaçati near to Ismir. In Kos (Kefalos, wave beach etc) and also at various locations in the UK (too many to mention).

This year I decided to try a new spot on the Bodrum peninsular and found the best location ever!. It is in Kadikalesi a small bay situated between Turgutreis and Gumusluk. The bay gets great cross shore conditions and you can plane straight from the beach (rare in Bodrum). There are great waves that break just by the beach where the centre is situated, so you can get big jumps straight away. There is also large swell outside so you can hit these face on. On the way back in then you can surf these waves as well, making it great fun!!

The water is also very warm so there is no need to take a wetsuit. Mind you I went in July. I'm not sure what it would be like in September or any of the low season months.

From speaking to the guys at the centre, Kadikalesi seems to get the best wind for advanced windsurfers in July and August. June is definitely a no go if your this standard, however im sure it would be great for beginners and intermediates. In terms of the way the wind blows its very similar to the rest of the peninsular - light in the mornings (great for beginners) and building in the afternoons for the more advanced.

The wind seems to come regularly from the SW, so the worst position you could ever end up in is down in Turgutreis. However the centre there had good rescue cover, so there is no need to worry about getting in trouble.

In terms of instruction, the guys at the centre gave my girl friend a great beginner lesson. It took her 2 and half hours to learn the basics and was very reasonably priced. She was in the harness by the end of two weeks after a private lesson. I would say my girlfriends instructor was one of the most professional I have met!

Would def recommend this place to anyone!

Equipment: In terms of equipment they had a good range of equipment, from good beginner boards with Dakron sails to wave boards with Neil pryde, Hot Maui sails, North and Gun sails to choose from.

They also said that in 2011 they will have fun boats, pico's and catamarans to rent.
