I took the Dolmus to Yalikavak, and to my surprise, at the top of one of the Hills, right on roads edge, were two nice Windmills. Make sure you have your camera ready, luckily mine was! Also, the views coming down to Yalikavak are BEAUTIFUL! I was sitting on the wrong side and on the way back, it was difficult. So, for views, sit right hand side and if you sit on same side coming back, should get Windmill photos. Hope no cars or trucks get in the way, happens to me all the time!

On a hill between Bodrum and Gumbet there are 7, since 1970, abandoned windmills. It is really a pity that the people of Bodrum don't take care of those windmills. They should be landmarks but now they are disappearing little by little.
From the hill top you will have a wonderful view of the city of Bodrum and the bay of Gumbet.

Windmills are on a hill which separates Budrum and Gumbet.
There are several of them but only two are in rather good condition, I mean with fans still present.
The top of the hill apparently serves as picnic place to local youngsters so don't demand it to be sterilely clean, quite the opposite.... unfortunately some of the mills are used as public..... well.... you know what.....
Though dawns are really beautiful there, and if you manage to distract from crunching rubbish under you feet, you'll enjoy to the fullest the synergy of sun, sea and wind....

Image of Bodrum
The Bodrum/Gumbet windmills are not something to do as much as something to see. The peninsula has many examples of this style of Windmill (similar ones are also seen in the Greek islands too) but most are seen on the hills between Bodrum and Gumbet. The windmills had a practical use once - they were used to grind flour right up until the 1970's.
They can best be seen from the waters in Gumbet's bay and a taxi will drive you up close and personal if you wish. The windmills have fallen into some disrepair over the years and most are without any trace of sails and slightly grubby. There is s certain amount of rubbish at the site and the windmills themselves are not very exciting (unless you are into windmils that is!), however the views from the hills are lovely.
Bitez is only 20 minutes to the center by minibus and is famous for wind-surfers. One can enjoy the beautiful beach and eat delicious Turkish food at the restaurants.
While going there you can visit the ancient wind-mills!
