Saklikent is a gorge about 3/4 hours drive from Fethiye.

There is a boardwalk up the gorge for a bit and in the non rainy season you can walk further. In the rainy season it is too dangerous due to the water volume.

It's worth a visit, wonderful scenery. There are the usual trinket sellers and restaurants there.

A huge canyon and valley (14km) between two mountains and it is unbelievably narrow and high. Its river has a very very cold water even in the hot (40 C) summer days.
There are restaurants on the bridges of this river where you can taste very fresh trout (fish) .
Also you can eat traditional 'Gozleme' and drink 'ayran'.

If you want to stay here ,there are tree houses :

    in the canyon

Saklikent is some 45 km from Fethiye and well worth a trip out to this canyon. -second longest in this part of the world at 300 metres deep and 18 kilometers long. The entrance to this canyon is through a wooden passage fastened to the rocks above the stream by iron bars driven into the rocks. Once inside the water of the Xanthos river gushes out from the rocks and forms a stream at zero degrees. This stream has to be waded in to go into the gorge and its peretty chilly on the toes! Plastic shoes can be hired at the entrance but most people used their own.

Saklikent is a wonderful canyon in the mountains behind Fethiye, recently discovered, only about 10 years ago or so. Saklikent means "hidden place" or something like that, it was created to attract tourists. :))
The canyon is 300m deep and there is a stream of river that if you want to cross, you´ll face a powerful stream of ice cold water, but it´s well worth walking the path, the scenery is amaying, like in Indiana Jones movies (again!)
It´s about 50km away from Fethiye and the landscapes that you cross while passing by on your way there are breathtaking! I especially loved the cotton fields and sesame lent with the high mountains with snow peaks behind.

Saklikent is between Fethiye and Antalya.. It is probably the best canyon you can see in Turkey, a vey attractive entrance and a long path.. The gorge is so attractive that though it has a bit dangerous path, it hosts tens of thousands of tourists every year.. The water is icy cold.. (see my picture in the traelogue.. bizzz ).. We have tried to go as far as we can however could not manage to reach the end..
