    Flying Boat

by Aurorae Written Oct 18, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

An invention of a certain Italian (so i've heard), a flying boat! Wings are attached to the rubber boat, and when the huge engine starts to rotate, the boat first runs on the water and then it rises up and takes off! It also lands on the sea, and flies back to the beach. It's extremely popular among old English people especially.

    Fethiye: Hydrofoil to Rhodes

by Intrepidduck Written Sep 16, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a hydrofoil running, May - September, Mon - Fri from the Main port of Fethiye to the Greek island of Rhodes and back. The trip takes about 90 minutes one way.

It departs Fethiye at 9AM and costs approximately TL 90 million or US$60, however prices vary through whom you book it through and can be as low as US$50 for the one way trip. This is a better option than travelling all the way up to Marmaris where evidently a departure tax is laid on.

Dolmus is a local bus/van that transports people around. You pick it up by lifting the hand, and you get off where you want. The price is 2 million Turkish liras, from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Kayaköy, etc...

Get to know your dolmus routes. Stand by the side of the road and stick your arm out and they will stop. Hop on and expect to pay 1 lira (30p) for the ride. Go as far down the route as you like, when you want to get off simply stand up and shout STOP!

There were two routes from Calis Beach to Fethiye, one took you past the hospital, the other through a residential area called Gunlukbasi - look for this sign on the front of the bus and you can't go wrong!

You can take dolmus from Oludeniz to Fethiye or vice versa ( It is also visiting Hisaronu )

In every hour, also from Fethiye to Kaya Village ( 7 a.m.-22/23 p.m. )

Price: 1.20 EUR app. ( Tip is good, but actually no need )

You are picking up by lifting hand, and getting off by saying "OK" or in Turkish " Musait bi yerde inebilir miyim? " that means " May I get off in an appropriate place "

Fethiye's old name was Makri. It means "hard to reach". Today's name comes from a Turkish pilot died in a plane accident in 1914.
Dalaman airport is an important hub for Marmaris, Fethiye Gocek and around.

    Minibus/van: Dalyan-Fethiye-Faralya (Uzunyurt)

    by June.b Updated Nov 21, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I was worried about this minibuses as it's starting to be winter time and I can't find any schedule online (so I'll be posting it here for the benefit of travelers).

I was in Dalyan and heading to Fethiye, then onto Faralya. So here's how to do it, from Dalyan (and from Fethiye too).

I took a public transport van from the center of Dalyan near the river and the turtle statue, this van goes to the transportation hub of Ortaca town, there's no direct Fethiye bus from Dalyan. Fare is I think 4TL.

Then, from Ortaca where I've waited for about an hour for the bus to arrive, I took the minibus at TL11 (this I remember very well) to Fethiye's main bus terminal.

I went out of the bus terminal and waited for the passing minibuses infront of Carrefour. The local couple told me there's no direct bus to Faralya from there - maybe because it's winter already but I found out later that there are minibuses that goes all the way to Faralya from the main bus terminal because I took that from Faralya to Fethiye (opposite direction) after my stay there. it's those minibuses that has Oludeniz and Faralya on the signboard infront of the bus.

So I took the fist bus that passed along with the local turkish couple on the way to Oludeniz as I don't want them to feel that I don't trust them. Maybe their right. I got off at the beach side of Oludeniz, the last stop of the bus and from there I've waited for less than an hour for the minibus that goes to Faralya arrives.

There are only about 5 passengers including me on the way to Faralya and the bus runs like crazy swerving at each turn only a foot distance to the edge of the ravine. I almost puked at the thought that if he missed any turn, we might be rolling on the sea below or valley, and all of us 5 passengers will die without much publicity, it could have gotten more attention if the bus is full, ain't it?

Fare from Oludeniz to Faralya is TL4 or 5, and dropped me off along the main road very near to my .chosen accommodation.
