Friends Bar and Restaurent: Good Entertainment

    by redrhino12 Written Sep 30, 2011

Situated in the main square,we had several meals here all of which were very tasty, but a special mention must go to their Sunday Lunch which was exceptional and the best and tastiest I have ever had.
Entertainment again is on 10pm till midnight and consists of the usual theme shows along with the dancing waiters, keep an eye open for YaYa as he walks around with a fishbowl on his head then proceeds to climb a tree.
All good fun and a great set of lads.

Favorite Dish: Sunday Lunch just like mum used to make.

Cafe Maestro: Cool restaurant - literally!

    by Britannia2 Updated Sep 21, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

An open air restaurant with a ceiling of vines with huge fans and water sprinkler coolers to keep customers cool on hot nights. We ate here three times - the menu is extensive and there is something for anyone from the UK and this is one of the many restaurants that caters really only for UK diners.
Its disappointing to see UK diners here eating cottage pie etc. so far from home especially when the extensive menu covers food (suitable to the British palate of course) from across the world.
The staff are wonderfully friendly and constantly shaking hands and kissing ladies hands and so on but its all part of the atmosphere here and most people were returning visitors.
The toilet facilities were clean and part of the adjoining hotel.
Generally 100 - 130L for two people with wine, starter and desert.
I never saw anyone from outside the UK here and as with other restaurants it felt we were sat in England on a hot night.

Favorite Dish: Without doubt the lamb (which has to be ordered a day in advance) - it was so tender it fell off the bone. Other meals we had were lemon chicken and fish - all well cooked and presented. Always accompanied by rice and chips and vegetables.
A good range of starters and deserts but coffee (as everywhere we went) awful - just instant coffee and best avoided.

Taste of Asia: Indian / Chinese restaurant

    by Britannia2 Written Sep 19, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A rather gaudy frontage displays how this restaurant will be - staff more interested in having a good time and harrasing potential diners as they walked by.
Aimed purely at UK customers with several notices on the walls of quotes of how wonderful the restaurant is by presumably satisfied past UK customers .
The waiters were good English speakers but mixed up both the drink and food order but did give complimentary tea and coffee as an apology.
Food is either Chinese or Indian and cooked exactly as it is in the UK - in fact if it was not for the hot evening and the fact the prices in lira we could have been in England.

Favorite Dish: We had the special of chicken - chicken chowmein and sweet and sour chicken at 19 L. Not sure that the chicken was anything other than from a tin but generally OK.

    Kerem Restaurant: Genuine Turkish food

    by Britannia2 Written Sep 18, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In a town that caters mainly for visitors from the United Kingdom trying to find a genuine Turkish restaurant can be difficult but the Kerem on the canal side is a very good eating experience.
The restaurant is based on a Turkish house and has a pleasant garden at the front of the building which is open fronted.
The menu is in Turkish with colour photos and the owners are happy to explain the menu in detail and help assist in choosing dishes. They can also be adopted to suit the customer with perhaps less garlic or no peppers.
There is just one toilet inside the building and this was clean but there was nothing to dry hands on.
A meal for two with drinks was 160 lira (about £35).

Favorite Dish: We had stuffed mushrooms and a shrimp cocktail to start and I had a chicken casserole and my partner had a traditional fish dish as main courses.
The owner had prepared a home made Turkish cheese cake for desert.
Coffee a disappointment but it is across the whole area.

  • Hanedan: Hanedan - Amazing

by rocknrollerbaby Written Jul 3, 2011

Whilst staying in Icmeler we found a few restaurants we liked but highest on the list of favourites were Hanedan and Kayra. Both a little bit out of the bright lights and brass of the main town and more towards the old town but for me that was just perfect as I’m not really a bright lights and brass kind of person! I don’t want bingo on my holidays and I don’t want chips either and these two restaurants were just up my street! Kayra seems to cater for the locals (just what I was after) and provides gorgeous food very cheaply. There are no frills or fuss but when the food’s this good there’s not much frills and fuss needed. We ate here twice and with drinks, mixed meze (which was lovely) and a kebab each which was not at all like the kebabs eaten on high streets in England by drunken monkeys straight out of night clubs but a wholly authentic experience instead and a desert the bill came in at around twenty quid and that was WITH a hefty 40% tip! It doesn’t get much better value than that! The staff also were so nice, they shook our hands they fawned over our daughter and they were so utterly attentive it was such a nice place to be! They are on to a winner here, if you try out this restaurant that looks just like a little café from the outside but is so much more then you certainly will not be disappointed!

If you’re after something a bit more special however then do try Hanedan. I have to say this one was my favourite out of the two although it was hard to choose. It too was exceptional value for money costing about £35 max for three courses and drinks and a decent tip but that was us being really greedy and ordering the most expensive things on the menu, you could easily eat cheaper than that here and if you were dining in a similar restaurant in London (and it could easily hold it’s head up in our capital City) you would be paying five, six times or more maybe the price you will pay in Icmeler. We ate the mixed meze they bring everyone for free, this was amazing balloon like bread, salads, Turkish pizzas, grilled peppers etc. We added to that by ordering mixed dips which were out of this world and another dish from the starters menu such as the cheese pastries (gorgeous), then we had something from their specials menu, a kebab with a sauce (and I’m not talking chilli or garlic in floppy white pitta), sometimes they were rolled in bread or rolled around vegetables or rice, the accompaniments were delicious and the quantity was much more than enough. For desert we had gooey glorious traditional Turkish deserts and then we had Turkish coffees and apple teas… This was a fine dining experience with a lovely and surprising price! The staff and owner were delightful and made our baby daughter very welcome. It was a shame to learn the owner is thinking of relocating into the busier part of the town where the restaurants are surrounded by British bars and bright lights. He feels he must as passing trade is not what it would be if it were in the town and he needs the business but for me the location of out of town was much preferable and people should take the ten minute walk (which is all it is) to go there for it’s superb food! If you’re going to Icmeler then go here, you can’t go wrong!

    Favorite Dish: Everything!

Kayra: Cheap as chips, and lovely!

    by miniman2804 Written Jun 8, 2011

Just once, save some money and eat local. No entertainment, no over-attentive waiters - no alcohol. What!! Local people in the restaurant which is always a good sign.

Off formica topped tables, enjoy (I mean that) delicious chicken wraps, grilled meat. kebabs. Soft drinks at TL2 a glass.

TL63 for 4 of us. Go spend your money on drinks somewhere else. You won't get better value than this.

Favorite Dish: Any grilled meat is delicious.

PS - Turkish restaurants were not designed with vegetarians in mind.

Buffalo Bar and Restaurent: Cheap Drinks and Good Food

    by redrhino12 Written Jun 7, 2011

Just spent 14 nights in the Buffalo bar and about 7 lunchtimes.
Food is inexpensive and of a very good quality,eg- half a chicken and chips 8 tl= £3-07
    Efes was 2.5tl a pint =96 pence.
Karaoke played every night with some very good singers doing their stuff, one or two nights were quiet due to it being early season.
An excellent place to go if watching your lira and you like Karaoke.
Our group will be back on the 7th of August for another few nights in the Buffalo.

  • Hanedan Ocakbasi: A must try traditional Turkish Restaurant

by tomatkins Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Couldn’t agree enough with londonvoyages, Hanedan was the best restaurant we found in Icmeler, the food is amazing and the owner was the nicest guy making you feel extremely welcome and relaxed. With a big lack of traditional Turkish restaurants in Icmeler it was nice to find one, especially as good as this one. We went 3 times whilst we were there, cannot recommend this place enough, a must try.

Favorite Dish: Leg of Lamb, slow cooked for 3 hours. The lamb just falls of the bone and melts in your mouth. Also, it comes out with two little flames on the plate. Excellent!!!

This restaurant serves excellent food, has excellent staff and excellent entertainment. I hope it is the same cook in 2007 as it was in 2006 (his name 'Yusef'), one of the best chefs in Icmeler

My advice would be to use your common sense and behave appropriately. Remember that you are not in the UK (or wherever) , think about the signals you give out (body language, clothes, behaviour etc etc), be sensible with alcohol and take exactly the same commonsense precautions as you would at home...watch your drinks, do not go anywhere with people you do not know etc etc....
