    Dalaman Airport

    by miniman2804 Updated Jun 8, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Now I know that all airports are expensive, but the bar/restaurants at Dalaman are criminally so. TL8 for a soft drink - TL11 for a beer, TL25 for a Big Mac (that's over 10GBP!!).

Unique Suggestions: Take all your snacking requisites with you when you go home.

New for 2011. Onur air have done a deal with one of the burger bars BEFORE you go through security (after luggage check in) - burger chips and drink TL12 we heard, though we'd taken our own advice and got chicken wraps fro mAlin's (QV) for TL4.50 each.

Ask the hoildays4u rep at the airport.

Fun Alternatives: If you are bussing it from Icmeler/Marmaris, then do use their "comfort break" stop to stock up, but not on the way there (see separate tip).

  • Prices at Dalaman Airport

A warning to anyone passing through Dalaman - with 3 adults and 3 children we were stuck in chack in for 3 hours whilst 'tommy 2 fingers' atempted to book in 200 passengers. Our children were complaining of starvation so we brought 4 finger rolls with chicken and salad and 4 small tubs of pringles we knew that it was going to be expensive but £35 was daylight robbery.
Be warned it is mega expensive at the airport - we should have known, we have been through Dalaman 36 times since 1994!!!

"Comfort break" stop on way to Dalaman airport.

I heard that the travel companies have had this place purpose built.

It's nearly 2 hours wheels rolling from Dalaman airport to Marmaris/Icmeler, and a pee stop is appreciated. However. it takes place in a not unattractive building where they will relieve you of about twice as much money as the equivalent will cost you in town for snacks, beer, fast food.

Resist the temptation on the way out, even at 3am. If it's your first time in Turkey, you may think the prices are normal. On the way back however, it is cheaper than anything at the airport.

Unique Suggestions: Worthwhile on your way home, but better to have got organized before you leave the resort.

They even wait in trees for the unsuspecting tourist

Unique Suggestions: The Restaurents have people outside of their places trying to get customers into the bars.
Sometimes the Hassle can be to much but if you just have a laugh with the guys everything is ok.
But never promise to go back next night because they will remember you.

Do your homework before booking your hotel

This tip is really to do with how we fell into a trap with "Tulip Holidays"
Firstly the Apartment/Hotel "The Imperial" This place was sold to us as a new 3 star plus, with good views nice balconies large swimming pool etc. When we arrived it was a new place, but our room was in the roof with low ceilings which I kept hitting my head on.
the balcony was tiny, and the view was of a giant sized coach park. The management although friendly were amateurs and poorly dressed . also were often seen with their feet resting on the pool bar. The swimming pool was small and full of children(nothing wrong with children), adults just did not have enough room to swim in.
Overall, there are better 2 star places than this - DON'T GO THERE.
Our friend in Marmaris sought out the management of Tulip in Icmeler do get us moved, eventually, after much discussion Tulip moved us to a better hotel/apartment on the fourth day of our holiday.
We met several people from the U.K. who had similar stories. Most of which were put into loft rooms, they all were eventually moved to acceptable accommodation.
This problem is with the operators not the locals.

Unique Suggestions: If you find yourself in this situation, either refuse accommodation allocated and insist to see the management-not some poor uderpaid rep. Make sure you take photos of your challenge. Most problems are usually sorted out by the fourth day of holiday at the latest. Be firm and polite with your complaint, and always stand your ground.

Fun Alternatives: Check out the stories of hotels on
    and on

This will help you choose the right hotel etc. to stay at.
