Recently returned from Icmeler. Wanted a private car, just for the four of us, from Dalaman Airport to our Hotel in Icmeler and back again a week later. Searched loads on internet and it became clear that a lot of companies were actually offering a shared shuttle bus service, even though they didn’t make that perfectly clear on their websites. Finally found one that was punctual, reliable, easy to follow and cost us £78 in total for the return journey for the four of us and I can confirm it was a car big enough to take four suitcases (2 large, 2 medium) www.qxygene.net There was a guy waiting for us with a card holding up our surname – look around for him where all the other taxi guys are waiting and you will find him – You pay the £78 english pounds to the driver when you get the hotel. All the instructions are on their FAQ on their website and like I said I emailed them and they replied the next day.

Taxis are new and yellow in the Icmeler area. There are a number of easily identifiable taxi stands in the town and hotels will book a taxi for you.
The photo shows a display of typical fares across the area.

Small orange buses ply their way around the town - you can stop a bus anywhere and alight anywhere. There are only two routes - the Old Village to the town centre and beach and a route to the beach.
A single trip in the town is 1.50 and to Marmaris is 2.50 single. If you need to change buses you only pay on the second bus and locals seem to travel for free on the Old Village route. The Old Village route tends never to be the same and some locals get driven to their front door! The drivers stop at road side cafes for drinks to be bought to them and this is a real travel experience never to be missed!

Its very easy to get to here, you do not have to do a tour. A Dolmus which departs from Tansas, seems to come here about every 15mins to half hour. They have Icmeler written on a board in the front window, and are the Orange Line bus.
PRICE IN 2009 WAS 2T/L ONE WAY
You can be dropped off where ever you want in Icmeler.

A transfare by coach from Dalaman to Icmeler could take anything from 1 Hour 50 mins to over 4 hours as it took us once if you use the transfare services of your holiday company and travel by coach.
A transfare by private hire would take one and a half hours.
Transfares can be pre-booked before you set off on holiday and would work out cheaper than catching a taxi outside the airport.
ICR have a fleet of air conditioned mini busses with free drinks and videos for the journey.
The Taxi fare to Icmeler one way is £50.
A private transfare is from £90 return.

This was part of a reply to a forum question about bike hire, and cycling to Marmaris and Turunc
I lived/worked in Icmeler for a while. I can't recollect any bike hire places, but I've found that the Mares Beach and Marmaris Palace hotels offer bike rental - not sure if this is just for their guests or if others can hire.
It is possible to cycle to Marmaris (downhill), but coming back it is uphill, and the road can be quite busy. There is a road to Turunc, but my favourite way of getting there was by a small boat from Icmeler.
Regular buses/ dolmuses and water taxi leave Icmeler for Marmaris.
When I was working there, it was very hot and hunid 120 degrees plus. We were offered bikes to travel between Icmeler and Marmaris, and we all refused - It's different when You are working (wearing a pleated skirt/ carrying lots of equipment etc) to being on holiday though!
Ask at your hotel/ Hol reps etc. re. bike hire.

A regular site around Icmeler is the camel and its driver.
They are usualy near the Friends Restaurent and Bar or near the 3(4) Bells Restaurent.
Rides on the camel are avaliable, the wife went on one and she had to hold on tightly as it got onto its feet or you can mount the camel via a small set of steps.

When you go to Icmeler be sure and visit the famouse green mercedese.
This car has been parked in front of the exchange office in the square of Icmeler near the Bonjour and Lighthouse restaurents for several years.
This winter it was filmed doing a circuit of the square.
It has become a practice to have your photo taken with the car and post it on icmeleronline
