Poseidon Restaurant: Cretan food and Rebetiko music in Kayaköy
I am French and I live in Berlin since three years. This summer I came to the area of Fethiye for the second time. To the people who are interested in Greek-Turkish history and the life of Anatolian Greek before the population exchange agreement, I can only recommand to go and visit the old city of Kayaköy, which can easily be reached with the minibus from the city of Fethiye.
Since it is very warm in mid-summer (July and August) I would recommand to visit the old city of Kayaköy in May or September/October. The local authorities charge eight liras (about four euros) for the visit of the city. One should spend at least half a day to visit the place.
I went four times to Kayaköy and each time I ate in the evening at the Poseidon Restaurant, which is located close to the old church. They serve delicious Greek, Cretan and Ottoman specialities. If you go in May/June you can also try the local wine, whichis however very strong. The music is also great: the owner of the restaurant is a fan of Rebetiko music, which was the music played by the Aanatolian Greeks. He can tell you a lot about it, as well as about local history.
Favorite Dish: My favorite dish at Poseidon was the "Saray Mahmudiye" (beef meat, onion, garlic, dry apricot, quince, alomond, thyme, red pepper). It is an Ottoman speciality and has a unique sweet-sour-salty taste!
