Koycegiz Golu Things to Do

  • Iztuzu beach.

Fancy a day on the beach, where you may see a turtle.Boats cost 5Ytl for the round trip and then sun beds and shades are extra too.Take plenty of water with you.Good photo opportunities as you travel down the river.

  • Strolling along the Lakeside

Actually I took this photo when I was sitting enjoying dinner at one of the small cheap cafes along the lake. Its so beautiful to walk along as the sun is setting, or just sit and enjoy a cool Efes!

  • Swimming in the Lake

Swimming in the clean waters of the lake is something that you will surely do when in Koycegiz. Its so refreshing and a great way to cool down from the hot Turkish Sun!

  • Iztuzu Beach AKA Turtle Beach

Known more locally as Turtle Beach as this is where they nest at certain times of the year. When we were there this wasnt that time of year, but we enjoyed the beach all the same. Its a wide sandy beach, with the sea on one side and a small lagoon on the other, there are places to buy drinks and snacks too. It was very nice but incredibly crowded.

  • Lycian Tombs

When you take the brilliant day boat along to Dalyan you will pass these spectacular Lycian Tombs set high up in mountains. They are totally amazing and extremely easy to spot from Koycegiz Lake.

  • Dalyan Mud Baths

Ok, not strictly in Koycegiz, but nearby. And as a visitor to Koycegiz you will almost certainly go down the lake on a boat trip to Dalyan. The Mud Baths stink real bad! But they are a great way to spend an afternoon - we rolled around like pigs in the mud, there are instructions on how to get covered in mud, let it dry and wash it off.The mud is so...

  • Koycegiz Lake

The Lake dominates the town. We enjoyed walks along the Lakeside (day and night), chilling on the little beaches that are around the lake.In the evening it takes on a whole new perspective, restaurants set up seating areas and tables along the lakeside and everyone sits along the lake eating by moonlight and candlelight.

  • Bird watching around the lake.

    Lots to see,here's an idea.White throated robins,Penduline ***,Masked shrikes,Hobbys,Red-footed falcons,Rollers and Bee-eaters.White storks,Black-headed wagtails,Red-rumped swallows,Lesser kestrels,Alpine swifts and Scops owls.White throated kingfishers,Whiskered and white winged Black terns,Pygmy cormorants,Purple and Squacco herons,Little egrets...

  • Kaunos

It was once a major city but as the bay silted up it declined around the 1st century A.D. There are remains of a Roman bathhouse an early Byzantine church , library and amphitheatre.Small cafe there now as well.
