Favorite thing: Take a tip and visit one of the fantastic cocktail bars in and around marmaris. This one is a non alchoholic drink called the Cinderella, its a mix of fruit juices and grenadine with piped whipped cream on the top Mmmmmmmmm Delicious

Fondest memory: The best cocktail bars are in bar street. Just head for the marina and its behind the castle

    TAKE COVER

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: When you book a day trip on a boat from one of the hundreds of travel agents in Marmaris this is where you probebly be taken to catch your boat, as you can see, all of the boats have a top deck for sunbathing and a lower deck which is nice and shadey, if you decide to try a boat trip in july or august my advice would be to grab a seat on the lower deck coz its damn hot up there and theres no shade at all.

change your money to turkish lira

by mindcrime Written Nov 1, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: You can change your euro/dollars/pounds in many exchange offices. Most of them don’t have commission but the rate changes sometimes so if you want to change a big amount maybe its better to find the cheapest one although the differences are not so big. The days I was there the rate with euro was 1e-1.65tl til 1e-1.68tl.

Dont forget that is a tourist town so you can easily use your euro/dollars for shopping.

    TURKISH BANKS

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: If like me you take travellers cheques on holiday with you then you need to know where the best place is to cash them in. We found with the exchange rate changing all the time its best to hunt around for the best deal. The best we could find was the Yapi Kredi bank which is a 5 min walk inland along Ulusal Egemenlik Bulvari, on the right hand side of the road. You will get a good deal there.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Heading back to Bodrum from Marmaris, I was surprised to see the most beautiful two rows of Australian Gum Trees. It looked like they really enjoyed the Turkish climate, as they had grown well!
They are located on the roadside near Gokova.

What am I? ........ Whats my Name?

by balhannah Written Jul 27, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Not really a tip, but on the way to Datca, there were lots of this bright Yellow Flower growing beside the road. I wondered whether it was a weed? and what was its name?
Also, returning to Bodrum from Marmaris, passing through a certain section were all these ?in the trees, they looked like Birds Nests. We do have Birds nests like this in Australia.

If you know the answers, would you be kind enough to let me know. I'm most interested to find out!

    Turkish Cuisine

by traveloturc Updated Jun 25, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Turkish cuisine is very rich. It is a must to have Turkish coffee after sea food, meat dishes and deserts. The famous honey of Marmaris can be tasted and purchased.
Fish is served in the restaurants around the wharf and the marina, on the Marmaris-Içmeler coast line, as well as in Çiftlik, Orhaniye, Selimiye, Bozburun and the Sögüt Saranda district.
Turkish cuisine can be found around the town while international cuisines and fast foods are located in the city centre and in Armutalan and Içmeler. Village dishes, gözleme , manti (Turkish ravioli) can found in and around restaurants in Bayir, Çiftlik, Turgut, Orhaniye and Çamlik. Open buffet in the hotels are also rich with local delicacies.
For more details please check my Turkey pages about Turkish Cuisine ...

Fondest memory: Try every specialty as much as you can

    A totally unique holiday

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Marmaris has so many things to see and do so it's impossible to cram it all in one holiday but you only have to visit once and you will return year after year. My best tip is to take an organized boat trip, taking in the bays and coves of this stunning coastline. Also you can't go to marmaris without visiting the local turkish night. It's a great laugh when your pissed(LIKE I AM MOST OF THE TIME) Ha Ha Ha. Thers belly dancing which is perfect if you have fat guts like me and jugglers if you have jugs like my misses Ha Ha Ha with traditional dancing , and a buffet, Oh and as much wine as you can handle you can't go far wrong. Marmaris is also famous for its coverd bazaar selling anything you can think of, and the spice shops are amazing the smell is out of this world. Not a bit like me Ha Ha.

Fondest memory: My best memory of marmaris are the people themselves they will do anything for you. Well almost anything. Oh and one more thing. If you want you can trade your wife in for a cammel. i tried this but sex with a cammel is not nice (bad breath you know) Ha Ha Ha.
