POSTCARD DELIVERY
  • Tip Rating:
  • The postal service in Turkey is very bad, the last time i sent postcards from Marmaris they actually took 6 weeks to deliver. Agood tip here is to pack a few airmail envolopes in your suitcase, just buy the postcards and put them in the envolope, they will then be delivered in days instead of weeks

    BOOKS IN MARMARIS
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you like reading on holiday like me then you need to take books with you because it is hard to find any decent books in Marmaris. You can get newspapers but they are a day late and work out very expensive, an English newspaper in Marmaris costs about £2.

    DON'T FORGET THE SALAD CREAM.
  • Tip Rating:
  • My best tip is to leave plenty of space in your suitcase before you leave because gifts are so cheap to buy in turkey. Most foods are available but my wife will insist that we take the salad cream with us, not because she's mad its because you can't get the horrible muck there. Actually she is stark raving bonkers Ha Ha Ha". If you are traveling from England to turkey you will need a visa which you will be asked to purchase on arrival for ?10 pounds sterling, cash only. Bit of a con if you ask me.

In the summer month's the heat can get unbearable with temp 45 degrees and over,so wear as little as poss. Comfortable walking shoes is a must as the heat is murder on your feet. Also a good pair of beach sandles or flip flops are essential as the sand will burn the soles off your feet. Actually while i'm on the subject, what do you call a Frenchman on the beach. FELLIEP FELLOP flipflop get it Ha Ha Ha. Anyway if you're booked on a Gulit cruise holiday there are no shoes allowed on board and don't bring any electrical items as there are no electricity sockets on board.

A good medical kit is a must, treatment by a doctor or hospital in turkey is very expensive. As for toiletries like soap, toothpaist, ext, they are readily available and cheap

Photography equipment including films are very expensive in turkey so make sure you bring enough to last.

You will need some sort of swimming costume. Topless sunbathing in turkey is not allowed. Unless your a man Ha Ha Ha.

Games, mosquito repellent, sun glasses etc.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just a small bag for t-shirts, short pants, short dresses and sun glasses will be enough.

mosquito repellent, medical for bee and for all other flying insects bites, medical for sun burns would be helpful.

Any kind of games (mikado, pictinory, playing cards, risk, board games) will make your trip much more fun.

Books and all kind of plastic sea entertainment or sports equipment

    Pack for extreme hot weather
  • Tip Rating:
  • Shorts, sandals and a t-shirt. But most importantly, a hat. I was wearing a Colombian sombrero I bought at Zipaquira, Colombia. Which led to much amusement on the part of the locals, who continually referred to me as "Tex" or "cowboy".

I'd advise at least factor 30-40 sunblock, and plenty of it. The heat is almost overwhelming.

    SINK PLUGS
  • Tip Rating:
  • Because of Turkish religion you will not find any sink or bath plugs anywhare, even in your hotel room. The turkish people have to bathe in running water so there is no need for plugs in Turkey

A city map and a guide book
A city map and an up-to-date guide book are essential items that must be included in your packing list so that you will not miss any of the popular tourist attractions in the city. Many detailed guide books and city maps can be purchased from book stores, souvenir shops and department stores in the city. Guide books contain detailed information on various public transportation and popular cafés, bars, restaurants, duty-free shops, shopping arcades and many entertainment outlets and nightspots in the city. Simple city maps and guide books are usually given free-of-charge to tourists at tourist information office. They are sometimes also available free-of-charge at airports, seaports, bus and train terminals.

    Clothings and miscellaneous items
Marmaris is very hot and dry during summer months especially in the month of August. Temperature can easily reach 45 degree Celcius. Needless to say your clothings shall be as thin as possible such as several pairs of t-shirts or short-sleeve shirts, several pairs of shorts, comfortable walking shoes or sport shoes, a hat, a cap or a sunshade.

I will always bring along with me when I take a vacation in a foreign country sufficient quantities of headache/fever tablets such as Panadol or Aspirin in case I may fall sick on my holidays. Medical fees/charges for foreigners are usually very much more expensive. I make sure that I bring along Vitamin C tablets too. They are good remedy for getting rid of fru and cold. It is essential to bring along in your luggage your daily intake of medicines/tablets if you are on medication.

Miscellaneous items shall include such items as sunglasses, handkerchieves and/or tissue paper to wipe away your sweat, several bottles of mineral water to quench your thirst as you perspire easily and get thirsty very fast, a bottle of sun tan, slippers, towels and swim wear if you decide to go for a swim.
