    The main reason this place is so special is the fact that it is a genuine local restaurant selling genuine local dishes. Its the sort of place where the tourists eat with the local people and if the locals eat there then it must be good

    My favorite dish was the Istanbul kebap, thats a lamb stew with rice and beans all served with local crusty bread Mmmmmm.

    Sofra Restaurant ( Sokak No. 23 Marmaris). There are two of these restaurants, only tried the above. Second year on the trot to this fabulous back street, local restaurant. No fast food here, just good traditional cuisine. You don't really need to worry about the prices, it is fantastic value, for two you can eat and drink as much as possible and will probably only cost you about £20, our bill averaged between £12 and £18. Choose from the ready prepared hot dishes on display or from their menu. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. The manager is a larger than life character who has helped provide us with many many pleasant meals at this popular place. Mostly local people that visit which speaks volumes ! (October 2006)

  • Directions: If you walk up first main bazaar avenue opposite harbour, keep going for about five minutes and it is more or less off the top in the back streets.
