Marmaris Thursday Market: Market - not to be confused with the Bazaar

    by Britannia2 Written Sep 22, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

An old multi storey car park houses the Thursday market in Marmaris. Worth visiting for the downstairs just to see the colourful displays of fruit, vegetables, cheeses, meats and flowers.
Upstairs is clothes, bags , towels etc and the usual run the gauntlet of the traders - when will they ever realise people will choose which stalls they want to look at rather than be pulled in to them!
However , as with all market stalls in the area, you the customer are in control. If you want to but goods haggle and haggle and simply walk away when the trader cannot agree your price. It was amazing how many called us back and agreed give away prices on items. If they do not you know the acceptable price for the same item at the next stall.
All goods are fake but they look OK and sell well with visitors.

    Turkish Markets

    by clueless83 Updated May 3, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Turkish Market in Marmaris is quite popular. They sell all sorts from clothing to jewellery to furnishings. Have a go at bartering. The people are very friendly, I went with two of my girl friends and we kept getting called 'Spice Girls' by the vendors. In one jewellery shop a sweet little girl of about 8 even chatted to us, practicing her English on us. In a bag shop we got dragged in by a crazy man called Chico Miko Tiko, I told him we didn't have any money, he didn't seem to mind, he sat us down and gave us apple tea! I also remember he sat on my friend's lap!

It is easy to get disorientated in the markets but we went with a coach group who told us to meet at a particular shop.

What to buy: Turkish rugs seem to be the speciality here but I didn't buy one.

    The real deal: Point Center

by tomerik Written Jul 31, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Along the main road in Marmaris you'll find Point Center which is a shopping mall with around 40 shops. Here you'll find brand clothing, some restaurants (also a burger king) and other things if you need a brake from the beach. Prices are quite high (since it is real brand clothing here).

    What to buy: Clothing.

    What to pay: European prices.

What to buy: It is up to you.

What to pay: Depend on how good you are at bargaining, but prices starts from 10 Turkish lira.

PARADICE CARPETS & KILIM: CARPETS, CARPETS, AND MORE CARPETS

    by whitecliff62 Updated Jan 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is another shop in Marmaris i was dragged in to by my wife (oh come on love, lets buy a carpet) so in we went. But i was amazed at the quality and stock that was in that shop, trouble is quality comes at a price, one carpet i really liked worked out at around £900 pounds so that one stayed in the shop hahahaha. A good point to add about the shop is if you buy a carpet you don't have to lug it around Marmaris on your back, they will arrange it to be flown back to your country right away (pity they did not do that to my wife hahahaha).

What to pay: You can pay anything from £10 pounds to thousands of pounds.

    Gima Shopping Center: Best Shopping

by malaplava Updated May 9, 2005

Gima is BEST place for shopping in Marmaris!!! First of all it is THE MOST CLEAN place ih whole Marmaris!
In Gima you can buy everything, from food to cloths and shoes!
On the ground floor are few shops with clothes and shoes. Behind me, on the pic, you can see my favourite shoe shop! And it was SALE, of course!
Do not expect prices like on market or bazar! Prices are like in any Europe city!
There is also Gima supermatket store, with all the stuff you need every day: water, friut, Danone yogurts...And you will enjoy every moment spent there!
Ooooh, one thing I must not forget - I drank there THE BEST Turkish coffee!!!
